I have found that my range has an practical shooting club, and I would like to start IPSC competition. My question is what model of gun would make a good choice?

Whichever gun you own. Shoot a few matches before you decide on a dedicated firearm, since there are multiple divisions you need to learn about. You'll probably need 150 rounds and at least four magazines for your first match, and they will likely let you start in a low ready position, so you don't even need a holster. Let us know how it goes.

IPSC is shot in very few locations in the US....probably look at USPSA rules.

Thank you, the club shoots on Friday nights, and I plan to watch a few first just to see what I am getting myself into.

Just remember to not try and imitate the way you saw someone else shoot. Just shoot your own game and go at a safe speed until you get the hang of things. That's one of the biggest mistakes I see new shooters make, they try to imitate someone that has many years experience that just shot at full speed.

Shooting on Friday nights means shooting indoors I assume. Prabably a club match with its own rules.
Shooting indoors is much different than outdoors and has its own challenges. Shoot the matches and have fun.

Hi. Nice to see you are interested in competition. As the others have said, take your time and shoot the way you are comfortable, don't try to copy someone else's style. If i may add, don't jump in trying to win the match, just shoot with the goals of being safe and beating your last score! The best way to view this is to compete against yourself!
