WAR MOVIES

How about a couple films with Jimmy Cagney: Mister Roberts and Gallant Hours (where he plays VADM William "Bull" Halsey.

Since the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings is approaching, The Longest Day would be at the top of my list.

Stayed up late last week watching Longest Day, front to back.
Was ok if you get past the obvious 'stars' playing the all of the characters.
I was waiting for John Wayne to say, "OK Pilgrim".
However, he did say, "move 'em out" though.

"Gettysburg" Mic drop.
Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee - he is a good actor, but there is just sumptin' 'bout him in this movie that just doesn't feel right.

Robert Duvall was a much better Lee in Gods and Generals. The fact that Duvall is actually related to Marsh Robert might have something to do with it. :)

The Great Raid, 2005
The Steel Claw, 1961.
Video of me walking without paying attention, thru a small
anti-war protest, as I was about to enter the Hearst Gym, for the '68 Smallbore Western Nationals.
Fruits and vegetables launched by puny punks.
Rescued by a lovely blonde flower girl.
Received the USAF medal for
"lack of attention to surroundings". :D

I normally can't get through subtitled foreign films. The orginial Swedish edition of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is likely the last one I'd enjoyed.
So, I can heartily recommend this one as another exception. It's the true story of a man who fought under 3 flags during the war. Here's an article, if you'd like:

Here's the IMDB background page...

My Way (2011) - IMDb

Here is a free link. At the bottom right of the screen you will see a box to display the closed-captioning. English-4 seemed to work fine.

Close Quarters 1943

Just today I happened upon another British navy WW2 film. From what I have gathered, all of officers and crew are the real thing.

I have to say the film is quite entertaining, I'll leave it up to you for your thoughts.
