Warped N Frame Stocks

Like everyone else, you end up now and then with a pair of Ebay specials that looked great in the pics but when you install them on a gun

I took them off the gun and put them away for awhile but now I would like to know if they can be fixed? These are really nice smooth presentation grips with a super finish and nice grain.
The pictures make them look way worse than they really are but this way it is easier to see the problem.
Can they simply be sanded flat on a piece of fine sandpaper taped to glass? The worst gap is at the bottom front and when installed is about a heavy 16th of an inch. Thanks for the tips, Bob

You will probably have to inlet them deeper if you remove enough to take the bow out of both grips, just take enough to remove the gap then measure the gap at the back of the grips, then the grip frame and take 1/2 of the difference from each panel, it can be done just go slow. Jeff

If your stocks are dented, you steam out the dents, and you would never know that the wood was damaged.

I'm one to try things to save them without cutting or sanding them. If you would steam them, then tighten them on the frame, maybe they would straighten out?
Just a thought.

Mag nut...I really don't see any denting to speak of and after laying both of them flat on a counter top, I can see that the left hand panel is dead flat but the right hand panel is warped starting in the center of the bottom. That one is the culprit.

Jeff, I will try lightly sanding the Right grip a little and if I have to take the inletting deeper, I will trace out the area of frame contact on the inner grip surface and use my Dremel tool to inlet a little deeper.
I am going to remove as little material as possible and if there is still a small gap then so be it.

I would contact member VM or DWFan concerning this problem BEFORE you start to remove any finish or material.

I was only making a statement on if you had dents, that would be the way to correct them.

I'd seek out DW as he's knows wood.

I still think steam and clamping them would work.
