We haven't had a pit bull thread in a long time

And further more, any dog can be vicious. A Border Collie attacked my son in our yard when my boy was 5 years old. I gave the owner 2 options, either the dog or the dog and he were going to be euthanized. He chose the dog.
I worked for the phone company for 42 years, the 1st 3 were as an outside tech. I have had many dogs try to bite me, one was successful, a mangy unclean live outside in the weather poodle. I chased him for a while I was going to bite him back but he ran like the wind.
I was attacked by a Pit Bull, I had my double sole knee high lineman boots on. I sidestepped as he got to me and kicked him around the ear knocking him sideways. I then kicked him in the ribs knocking him up against the house, I stood on his throat while doing an Irish Clog on his ribs all the while talking loudly and firmly to him. He remembered my voice until his last day. Proud? No. But it beat getting eaten. The same dog treed a co-worker on a pole a few days before that. It is a long story but I knew that dog prior to our training session. A few weeks later the co-worker and I were going to a 2 man job. I was driving, we went by the house of the pit bull who was in the front yard. My buddy said Hey there is the Pit that treed me, I stopped, he said what are you doing? I opened the door, he said are you crazy the dog is coming at us. I got out he said, unprintable things for a family forum. The dog closed the gap quickly, I yelled at him, he remembered my voice and stopped, I ran after him reexplaining his heritage. He ran fast to his house. I got back in the truck, my buddy looked at me and said you are crazy. I said no that is the pit I stomped last week.
I've owned, trained and loved dogs since I was 5 years old. I have 2 labs sleeping at my feet now. Both bark loud and clear when someone knocks on the door.
My male is a large black Lab. A few neer-do-well lads rent a house a couple of blocks away. The do have rap sheets do not have jobs nor cars. One walked by last fall and asked what the big black dog was, I said Devil Dog, meaner than cat snot. He eyeballs the big male every time he walks by. A little skeered. I do know the Big male lab would protect my wife until the end.
I am the Alpha, all dogs are family or pack oriented. If you are not the alpha, one of the dogs will appoint them self. Then you have issues. The only member of our pack that doesn't get the alpha significance is my wife. I've explained it to her but it is not in her book of Venus translations.

No thanks. I take my dog with me a lot. No need to instill fear and intimidate others, particularlary others with dogs and parents with children, while going for walk at the park. I think most owners of these dogs around here understand this because I rarely ever see those breeds at the park.
Not a perfect comparison, but in some ways it's a bit like the guy strolling through the shopping mall with an AR. You can explain all you want how there is nothing to fear from the dog or gun, but it's going to frighten people.

I was caught in a thunderstorm while kayaking last summer.Headed for shore and walked into the thick timber when a pitbull came out of the trees in attack mode.I bellowed at it and it froze long enough for the owner to appear and grab it's leash.If I'd been armed I would have shot it.That dog wanted blood.

i dont mean to paint all pits with the same brush, ive known 1 that was a sweetheart but as youve said when a pitbull comes unglued its a serious matter. not like a bite from a shepherd ,ive been bitten by a g.s. and it bit then kind of looked to gauge its effect before trying for a second. a p.b. would grab and shake .to much risk for too little payout
i love our siberian husky hes a savage against mice and jerky treats. hes enough dog for us.
all dog owners need to be responsible for their dogs ,regardless of breed.

I found it helps a little if you feed them every once in a while.

I don't care for them, most of them around here are owned by idiots and are clearly used for intimidation and property protection. I don't think you can trust one that's not been cared for properly.
I've worked with trash, who would leave their pits chained in the yard, and have someone come by and beat the dog. It was their idea of "training". When I see a dog chained in the yard, I make an assumption of what kind of "person" owns it. Yeah, I know there are sweet pits, rotties, dobies, and chows. There are also a higher percentage of viscious animals of those breeds, with erratic behavior. I don't want any of them. Plus, I don't like any breed that people crop and chop on, like ears, tail.

funny you say that. a few years ago i found teeth marks all over our tv remote, we didnt own a dog at the time
it was my then twelve year old son
kids can be harder on your house than pets .
