Weapons ban?

I asked the NRA instructor about this. I asked him, since I was preparing to obtain a CCW, or concealed carry Weapons permit, if this allowed any other type of weapon besides a firearm. He wouldn't even touch that topic. I'm thinking that if weapons are banned, I may have to get rid of the golf club out of the back of my truck. I always keep a couple of golf balls in there to give it purpose. What about my jack handle. Sometimes I think that there is some confusion as to what is considered a weapon. I have made and used tools that would be very lethal if used in the wrong manner. Does anyone know if it is legal to carry a hatchet concealed with a CCW? I live in Missouri and I know that there are all kinds of different carry permits that specify what you can carry, but mine is simply a CCW. I really don't get the difference between a firearm, tool, weapon.... is it like, self defense firearm, and murder weapon? Gonna be impossible to ban all weapons or where they are carried. I guess if you want to carry a ball bat with you it would be best to have a ball and glove so you appear legit.:rolleyes:

Thats a good question. In Michigan we have a CPL for carry. I've been told that it is a concealed pistol license, and that means no other kind of weapon. Like a sap or an extendable baton like an ASP. I'd like to know the answer to this as well.
 
KRS 237.110(1) states the following

The Department of Kentucky State Police is authorized to issue and renew licenses to carry concealed firearms or other deadly weapons, or a combination thereof, to persons qualified as provided in this section.

Seems pretty non-specific to me in terms of allowed weapons.

So, you've visited England recently, have you? ;)
 
That's a Missouri question which would be a lot more likely to get answered correctly by reading the Missouri law or checking with a Missouri lawyer than by asking a bunch of uncredentialed strangers on a national forum.

There are states (FL, last time I checked) where a "pistol permit" covers even a switchblade, not that I would necessarily recommend one. There are states where a "pistol permit" covers only a pistol, in a holster. There are a lot of states in between, and probably a few beyond those extremes.
 
In Arizona, our concealed carry permit allows any kind of legally-owned weapon - including knives, etc. I routinely carry both a handgun AND a "tactical" folding knife as a CCW holder, and this is within the law. Plus a small flashlight. It doesn't make much sense to me to ban "other" weapons and permit only the most effective (guns). But then some states' laws are not based, as we all know, in discernible logic.

Now that we have Constitutional Carry here in Arizona, I'm not sure about non-permit-holders. I suspect discretely-carried knives would be OK, but I'm no lawyer.

My New York State CCW reads:
"LICENSE TO CARRY PISTOL IS HEREBY GRANTED..."

Doesn't get much more specific than that.
 
Most anything CAN be used as a weapon.

But if it's not specifically identified , it only becomes a weapon when used as such.

That 24" long , 1/2in drive ratchet behind the seat in my truck is really for changing tires. It's not a 'weapon'.

You aren't going to find a lot if attorneys who are willing to commit to a legal opinion on an internet forum, and if one did it carries exactly zero legal weight!

This is a state-specific question and the correct answer is only to be found in the statutes of the specific state's Code.These are available on-line, find the statute and read it. If, after reading the law you do not feel comfortable that you understand it, contact the Attorney General's Office and see if they will give you an interpretation. Bet you they won't!!

We had a guy that I needed on a job. (This is before 9/11, btw)
He gets to the airport and decides to carry his tools on cause checking them would have cost more due to the weight (But, we were paying for his flight - - Contentious employee, I guess).
The screener looks at his stuff and tells him that he can't take the ball-peen hammer with him.
*Why not*
*You could use it as a weapon*
*Dude - I could kill you with ANYTHING in this bag*

He missed the flight.
 
I’m heavily invested in Noveske AR-15’s.

That doesn’t keep me from owning M1 Garands,lever guns and revolvers..
Just saying.

And a golf club or hatchet would suck in place of a firearm.
At worst they are not going to ban ALL guns.

In Ohio, it's a Concealed HANDGUN License (CHL) and NOTHING else. It has NO other purpose. You don't need it to open carry, nor does it authorize you to carry any other weapon, be it a knife or a club.

Florida does not have a "pistol permit". We have a Concealed Weapons Permit, which allows us to carry any concealed firearm (any firearm permitted under law), as well as knives up to a certain length, mace/pepper spray, stun guns, and some other stuff.

There are states where a "pistol permit" covers only a pistol, in a holster. There are a lot of states in between, and probably a few beyond those extremes.

ABSOLUTELY, check with your local laws, they vary wildly from state to state...
 
In Pennsylvania you cannot carry a loaded rifle, shotgun, machine gun, pellet gun, bb gun or paint ball gun in a vehicle for any reason with the exception of disabled hunters with a valid permit to use a rifle or shotgun from a vehicle during specific hunting seasons while in legal hunting areas in persuit of game.

Our License to Carry Firearms grants the holder the ability to legally carry a loaded Firearm -defined as a pistol or revolver with a barrel less than 15 inches in length etc.- in a vehicle or concealed on their person except where prohibited by State or Federal Law. Without the LCTF you cannot carry any loaded Firearm concealed or in a vehicle. The LCTF does not mention any other weapons. Knives, clubs, MACE, stun guns and the like fall under a whole slew of confusing statutes and regulations.

Carry baseball bat? Better have a ball and glove too. Same thing with golf clubs. Most types of striking weapons are prohibited in vehicles- saps, clubs, nun chuks, batons, billy clubs and pipe can all get you arrested.
 
My Texas card says "Concealed Handgun License". In this state you can't legally carry any other sort of weapon. Each state has its own requirements.

Texas used to allow 5 " knives if they were not bowies or double edges, all manner of folding knives, loaded long guns in the car, oc/Mace, stun guns, and Tasers. Has that changed?

SC specifically allows - with no need for a permit - dirks, brass knuckles and straight razors.
 
I wonder if many states tried to craft laws which would withstand legal challenge and hence became quite specific. Alaska still does not so far as I know allow hand guns with out trigger guards. Maybe the laws are written to limit state liability.

THE NRA Instructor can only comment within the scope of the course material.

Your questions is obvious. CONSULT your state law. ANY object used as a weapon is a weapon in most jurisdiction.

In today's age of heightened security a key ring and and extending length is a kubaton.

You frankly need to read your state code and consult a lawyer.

My lawyers is a CCW person and I consult with him every few years on legal issues and precedents set since our last talk in any statewide cases.
