I don't wish to belittle what is happening in the Southern States, but I have to rant about this situation. We have weather here too, you know.

The clowns at the weather channel have been taking off our local "Weatherscan" channel and showing Isaac stuff which can be viewed on the normal Weather Channel". This means I have to go to my computer to get any local weather, which given we are also going through a period of storms that can give flash floods is a PITA. I am guessing that they have stolen one of their satellite feeds for OB purposes and the Weatherscan channels got dumped.

I don't have wildfires, volcanoes, blizzards, or earthquakes in LA.

I do see them on the weather channel.

Its national weather coverage.

Nearly 80% of us don't have power.
I am super lucky.

News = If it bleeds, it leads.

LVSteve, I didn't think Nevada had weather other than hot and hotter! At least that was the general weather during the two times I've lived in Arizona.

Issac was the "perfect storm" from the Wx Channel perspective. It was a hurricane, but just barely. This gave them enough wind to be "dramatic" as they stood outside, but not enough to blow the reporters down. I think at one time they had 8 Wx Channel reporters out in rain gear! With it hitting seven years after Katrina, they really played it up.

Prayers go out to those displaced by flooding. Up here in central Arkansas, the rains are a good start on our recovery from the drought.

How much rain did you end up getting in your area?

You should live down here. Between the News rags, radio and the local and National News on TV plus Jim Cantore:eek:

There has not been a storm for several years so they called out all the extra "help" and whipped everyone into a frenzy as usual. Yes, folks need to be informed and be prepared but as mentioned, Overkill!

That's why (as I mentioned in another thread) the damn TV stays off!! I do not need to see some bubble head in a rain coat standing on the beach with the tide coming in and than pan to a shot of a Palm tree blowing.

I have been there done that through every major storm and did disaster relief for several of the big ones.

I go direct to NOAA: National Hurricane Center

In fact in today's paper, front page was yet another whole section on what stuff to have AFTER the storm. Well if you are in an area that was hit, it's to late now for that.

For those in affected areas,
I wish everyone well and hope things improve as fast as they can.

Speaking of strange bedfellows, since 2008 the weather channel has been owned by NBC Universal, and Blackstone group and Bain Capitol.

I've done the hurricane, tornado, hail storm and a couple of snow/ice storms that we really suck at-but until I've walked a mile in the shoes of the earthquake ,blizzard, wildfire unusual heatwave or drought victims I'll just consider the TV folks an easily avoidable annoyance. A well known TV dude opened a door to get footage during Rita and created a negative pressure in the building we were in and put all at danger, still hold it against that ***.

I get so tired of watching that **** with Jim Cantore
doing everything he can to get his mug on TV.
Someday i'd like to see a "vacant barn" blow over
and land on top of his head while he's standing
outside describing the winds he's so bravely facing.
Best wishes and hopes for a quick recovery for all
our friends on here affected by the storms.

Chuck

A lot of folks down here had no channels!

I did not lose my cable although it went on and off every 2 seconds. Fortunately, the local TV Stations also broadcast their audio on local radio stations. This was more useful to me than the drama on the weather channel or national news.

LVSteve, I can understand your frustration, really, I can, but you have to figure that someone wanting their local weather has many other sources in their hometown. For those people who need to know about how their loved ones somewhere across the country are being affected and can't get through to them, the national weather channel is their news source.

Okay, now that I've given the spin version of how they are providing a service to everyone across the country, let's get to the real reason. 627 city hunter nailed it; this is their "if it bleeds, it leads". No one tunes in to hear "San Diego is 72 and sunny. Again."

Isaac in Arkansas was a God send as it was a break in this long, hot, ugly drought. Otherwise, for us it was just a rain event and it sure seems the weather reporters are downright disappointed that there wasn't the level of mayhem and distruction that they were hoping for.

Every year the southern area is hit with hurricanes. The weather stations/channels/etc., sound like it is the Second Coming in living color and stereo!!!

We are stuck getting a play-by-play description and it goes on and on and on............

Then they want to talk to every living soul that got wet!!

Oh, and how about the hundreds of stupid folks that stay in their homes until they end up on the roof?? Then other people have to risk their lives to try and safe the idiots!!!!!!!

EVERY YEAR.............

Its what you get when you dedicate a TV channel to 24 hrs coverage. You gotta run out of stuff after 30mins or so.

A hurricane appears on the horizon, and they got news.

Hope everyone in the path is ok.

They need to make it "Stormageddon" so more people will watch. The more people that watch, the more they can charge for advertising. It's all about the cha-ching.

I managed to watch a little of it and the part I saw showed some dude in his L.L. Bean rain suit standing next to and talking about a small tree that was presumably growing at an angle because of a past storm. At least that's what he thought. I'd have put my money on somebody planting it crooked instead.

Well Joe by the time you can see the cow flying by the window, I would think your need for the XP1000 storm tracker megatron ZT on the Weather Channel would cease :D

And as far as hurricane tracking-I'm a weather underground man myself!
