Wife and I both have some "use or lose" time. Between remodeling and prepping for winter (raking leaves from the neighbors tree), etc, we haven't had much time. Well, we finished the Main bathroom and have a month to demo the Master bath, so we took a couple of days to head out of town.

First, Saturday before we left, I got an e-mail from Gastroenterology. They took 9 biopsies during my colonoscopy and endoscopy. All but one were benign; the remaining one was cancerous but they got it all when they took the polyp.

All day drive through snow and rain to Bend, OR. Wife had asked to go back to the High Desert Museum there. Museum was fantastic! Bend==much less so. Had a great motel: The Cascade Lodge=reasonable price, great managers (they were from India). Bend was a transplanted piece of SoCal, especially Irvine==all strip malls, fast food, tire companies, big box stores, etc. No "spirit" or class at all!

Found a couple of things at the outlet mall. Tires were not holding as well as I would like in the snow, so we bought a new set when we got back. Shopping around saved me about $200.

Then, our big GSP is about 13 or so. He's covered in fat tumors and has been off his feed for a week or so. We figured it was down to a few days left for the guy. Wife took him in while I got the tires. Dr.'s report is he's pretty good shape. Lost some weight (we've had him on a diet=he was 120 lbs!), heart and lungs good, a little arthritis in his hips (wife and I got at least that much). Only one tumor to look at that may not be a fat tumor.

1. Ran a couple of loads to the dump from remodeling.
2. A friend gave us a brand new (in the box) toilet for the downstairs bath (#3 on our list of "to do's").
3. I also made 6 pies=2 blackberry and 4 green apple.
4. Canned 8 quarts of spaghetti sauce and 4 quarts of hot sauce.

All in all, one of the better weekends of the year!

Wow, you guys are energetic. When I lived in Kennewick WA, a day trip was the Columbia Crest Winery a few miles down the road, dodging giant tumbleweeds along the way. :)

Actually, pretty restful. This weekend will be a "Phantom Restaurant"==My wife belongs to the local women's writing club. When I turned 65, I challenged them to write me something Gothic. I got one Civil War/Modern ghostly love tale and a Gothic sci-fi in space. A few years ago, I started cooking before their monthly meeting.

Now, about every month or two, I will host a "Phantom Restaurant"==I pick the date, menu, etc and it is a surprise. Some are pretty easy to guess: Halloween, St Paddy's Day, etc. This weekend is a "Fall Harvest" and is themed on 1920-30's Saturday Matinees like the Long Ranger, Terry and the Pirates, Charlie Chan, etc.,Because of Halloween! Doing (Home-made) tortilla soup, clam chowder, chili, breads, and appetizers like Pancho Villa Nachos and Dragon Lady Dragon Eyes (jalapeno poppers) and Daisy Mae Cornbread.

That's really too bad about Bend OR. My first visit there was around 1987. Went to Mt Bachelor to ski. Spent a few days bumming around Bend and found it to be a very pleasant little western town. I guess a lot of other people did also. Went through there about 6 weeks ago and was shocked. For sure it has sprawl and has been Californicated. Wife wanted to spend a few nights there but I talked her into just blowing on thru. We were on our way to NM via CA, NV, UT and CO. I assured her we could find a better place to spend that time and we did in NV, UT, CO and NM.

The Deschutes Historical Museum is also another good one in Bend.
