We have some friends that live a few hundred miles from us in Virginia. They invited us out for a weekend celebration of my birthday. Since we knew we were going to be on the road for a while we took the truck. My wife's dinky little Toyota Yaris gets great gas mileage, much better that our 4wd Tacoma but the truck's a lot more comfortable on a road trip. That Yaris is a cramped little thing.
On our way out on Friday, we visited with my side of the family. My sister showed me her pink Charter Arms revolver and kept telling me that it's so light because it's such a high quality gun. Much better that my S&W 442 because it's so much lighter. It does have a decent trigger and it's really light but I don't think I'll be giving up my S&W's any time soon. I just can't get over that junky feeling plastic trigger guard.
We had a lunch of Chinese delivery then it was time to hit the road.
A coupla hours later we got to our friends place, we had beer and pizza and talked about guns and leather.
The next day we had a breakfast of eggs and sausage, Piled into their Jeep SUV and headed on out.
First stop was Tandy Leather. My wife reminded me that I had some leather money for supplies and I picked up some stuff. Usually I order that stuff online. It was nice going through the leather and picking out what I wanted rather than ordering it and hoping for the best. Also picked up some harness needles, thread, snaps, Chicago screws, another burnisher and a brand new, shiny stitchin' awl. My wife decided that our nephew needed a yoyo pouch and got a leather yoyo pouch kit. I thought it was for him to put together then she told me that I'm making it. I reminded her that I don't need no steenkin' kit but for some reason she wants me to use the kit. I said, "Ok but it ain't gonna look nuthin' like the picture."
Then it was off to Green Top Hunting and Fishing. Holy poop they had a lot of guns. The rifles and shotguns were all out where you can get to and handle them.
Then it was off to the handgun counter. Then the next counter, they had a huge handgun section in the middle of the store. I handled a Shield and found that it wasn't the gun for me, grip's too small, the M&P9c felt "just right."
I went around to the used guns and found a beautiful little 10-5 snubby and a nickle plated 36. I couldn't afford either one. I need to sell a lot more leather.
We left there, then it was off to Bass Pro. Talk about overwhelmed. This place was huge. Waterfalls, fish ponds, a seating area in front of a fire place, restaurants, shooting galleries and big bunches of fishing, hunting, camping and other kinds of outdoor gear.
After we left there it was supper time. We went to a place that had genuine barbecue cooked over hardwood. I couldn't have a beer with mine because I did have my snubby on my hip. It was still good.
After we got back to our friends place, we drank beer and watched a bunch of shows called "Penny Dreadfuls."
Next day it was on the road again heading to my Italian wife's side of the family.
They gave us a home cooked chicken dinner. We hung out for a while, my wife's Dad and I talked about wood working. He was a wood worker from way back but stopped a little while after going blind. His son has most of his tools but I have his table saw and stationary sander.
After leaving there, it was time to head on home.
We intended to stick to the highways and interstates but I missed the turn and we ended up taking a business road.
However, that turned out to be a good thing.
Ever since I got a flat tire on a bike trip; http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/402673-walk-shame.html. I've been needing some new tubes. We found a bike shop that had what I needed and had a sale on inner tubes, three tubes for the price of four.
Overall a fantastic weekend.
We got home last night, unpacked and I spent some time polishing and stropping my new stitching awl. Today my wife's off to work as a home health care aid walking distance from home right here in town and I'm workin' on a belt.

Green Top is my favorite store, my son lives about 15 min from there in Ashland, I did like the old store better. :D

Green Top used to be a favorite to stop at years ago when returning from the gun show in Richmond. In those days you could have your pick of reloading supplies, powder, 8lb. kegs. :) Haven't been in years. Glad you had a good trip. :)

Thanks for the update, Snubby. Thought we'd were gonna be treated with posted pics of that clothing optional Therapy / Resort / Spa and hear tell about the busted heater in the hot tub.

Sounded like time well spent.
They don't allow cameras but I smuggled mine in to get a pic of a key ring I made for them.

Did Zachary and Natayo make the trip, or did you have them clearing up the backlog of J-hound membership cards?

We left them with plenty of water, food and an extra litter box. We have an autofeeder water dish that uses 2 liter soda bottles. That little stinker Natayo knocked it over and dumped the whole thing on the floor before we made it out the door. He almost won himself a room in solitary confinement (locked in the bathroom) but instead we put out some smaller water bowls for him and Zachary to share.
When we got back the carnage was minimal.

Do you use the same math when you're counting your beers?
Nah, that's my wife's job and she knows better than to let me run out.
