Weekend Update, no not that one, Storm Update

Well the storm is still bouncing around Cuba. Here in SW Fl the outer bands are starting and it is beginning to rain. It is a fast moving storm (which is good) It may develop into a Hurricane later today. It will be offshore near me tomorrow morning. The Keys will get hit today.

We should just get a glancing blow , wind and rain. Been through much worse.

Of course the media and weather people have had nothing to report in several years so they have whipped everyone into a frenzy. Not saying you shouldn't be prepared but we have a days to get ready.

As of last night a city of 170,000 was OUT of gas. People are in panic mode, The rest of the 631,000 in the County I do not know. Sure would hate to be around if something really, really bad was happening

My house rule on Storms and Hurricanes is NO TV! I do not need to see some dork standing on the beach with the wind blowing and waves and then pan the camera to see a Palm tree blowing.

Think I will go clean a gun.

I remember a WC dude standing in waist deep water during one of the Missouri River floods, but behind him you could see all of the steel rim of an irrigation system wheel. Very obvious that he was standing in the road ditch instead of the six inches of water in the field.

A little wind and sprinkles so far here. Nothing like Charley, Frances and Jeanne in 2004, now those were hurricanes. I think, except for Key West, it'll be much to do about nothing.

Yeah guys, and where does all of the plywood go??? Bottled water, OK. Flash light battery's, OK. Gas we will eventually use, but what about the pallets and pallets of 1/2 inch plywood that assimilate into the panic EVERY TIME ? I am convinced that the "media," for the most part, will do anything to make money. Words like "devastating" seem to be repeated an awful lot. Given the amount of psychically impaired and elderly out there, especially in Florida, where is their heart? I am not past believing that those "min-cam" shots of some little gal standing next to an oscillating stop sign, dressed in a slicker, are the product of a fan and a garden hose. Here in north central Florida, we are where Florida folks traditionally go to weather bad storms. I'm sure the impact to the economy here is not "devastated" by the "torrential flood" of south Floridians suddenly forced into a min-vacation into the heart of the sun shine state-"catastrophic."

The storm has shifted a little more to the West so we should only get fringe outer bands. Storm surge is always an issue in the low areas.

The County just gave a "mandatory" evacuation for the beaches and low lying areas. Most people ignore that as where in the hell are they supposed to go? Get stuck in your car on the few roads leading out??

Once you leave you can not get back in until some important folks say you can. I am not leaving my dog and stuff for a small Tropical Storm. I have been in worse thunderstorms.

The storm has shifted a little more to the West

Yeah, the latest track (if one can believe them) is right at me now. But it is still to far out to worry about yet.

This may not be a big deal for Florida, but it looks like it could develop into a big deal for folks where it hits. The guys I follow who actually are experts, vs the Weather Channel Pretenders, are saying there's a reasonable this could turn into a major hurricane. The models have been saying LA/MS for over 24 hrs now, NOAA is keeping it farther to the east it will be interesting to see how it develops.

There is the possibility/probability that the storm will develop into a Cat 1 or 2 Hurricane by the time it makes landfall.

Predicted to be LA,MS, AL. As far as storms or Hurricanes go it is a fast moving and not densely packed as some of the real bad ones. None of them are good but they certainly can be worse.

Everyone in the path should still make preparations and stay safe.

From the inside...

We just had the 1st "band" go thru our area. Winds did jump up, but I'm guessing under 60MPH, lasted about 45 minutes. Looks like the center is just South of us, maybe 25-30 miles.

I suspect Isaac will gather strength after passing the Keys and getting out over the warm water of the Gulf..
