Weird find.. New model 37 with full hammer. Box label marked Japan?

Found a NIB model 37 WITH full hammer and new style box. Label marked Japan, and taped to the new style box. Fired casing dated 7-9-08. Has anyone else seen, or bought one of these?

The SCSW shows a large order of 37-2's made for Japan. Part of the order was cancelled and sold off to a wholesaler with Uncle Mikes grips. Product code 601615.

Is it just me, or do the Japanese seem to cancel quite a few handgun contracts?

I remember a few years ago when a load of Sig Sauer P230's chambered in .32acp with a safety and a laynard ring hit the marker. These were rumored to be from a cancelled Japanese contract also.

And one other thing, how come these guns never have any Japanese writing on them?

I cannot recall, but it was not anything out of the ordinary.
