Well, after

about 20 years I have finely procured a brand new gun. Tomorrow I will get my new S&W 986 9mm revolver. Now I need to get moon clips, a fiber optic front site and who knows what I will "have to have" for it. LOL.
What I know is I need a leather holster for it, and wonder if any of you know what I should look for. I appreciate all suggestions as to what will work. Thanks in advance.:D:D:D

Got it from a dealer on the net, just got real lucky I guess.. Well, my son did, he found it and snatched it up for me. Was looking for another .38, but this will work real well for shooting steel.

Load or unload a whole moon clip in just a few seconds. Revolver Supply has a nice selection of affordable moon clips too. I have the bigger brother to yours, the 929. It came with but 1 moon clip. First time to the range was not a lot of fun because of that. 1 clip and no loader=frustration.

When you say you bought your new gun after 20 years, did you mean this is the first gun you have purchased in 20 years, or the first "new" gun you purchased in 20 years?

No not the first by any means, just have not gotten a NEW one in the last 20 years. I have had a couple of used ones and had other new ones over the years. I started in 1962 so.......

Well I took it to the range yesterday and gave it a little range time. It performed flawless as expected, but did need a little rear sight adjustment. That will need to be readjusted again in a week or so when I replace the front sight with a fiber optic type. It will shoot a lot better than I am capable of I think. Trigger feels a bit heavy, but after I put a few hundred more
rounds through it may improve. If not I'll get a Wolff spring kit
and lessen it a bit. I guess the only thing I want to change in addition is the grip. I prefer a wood grip so that nothing against the gun, just my preference. I did get an inexpensive leather holster for it as I will not be carrying it often, just for the steel shoots. For anyone interested Triple K makes a 6" model thumb break STYLE 196 Carrylite GROUP 1 6" Cabela's #020022175 for $ 45.00 The gun fit is very good, tight, and sturdy.
All in all for the small amount I shot it I am very satisfied with it, and believe I made a great choice.

Thanks for taking the time to do a range report. I enjoyed it as did others I am sure. Always good to hear about a particular firearm from someone that actually owns one and shoots it. Who knows, I might actually see one at a gun shop someday. The gun shop that is ''somewhere over the rainbow''.
