Good on the NRA! I'm afraid though, that the only thing the media will pick up on is the part about putting armed guards in schools and the quote from Wayne about good guys with guns!
 
Way to go NRA. I really like the idea that for all the billions we spend on foriegn aid - ITS TIME WE SPENT SOME MONEY ON OUR KIDS - and put an armed guard in every school - YES, EVERY SCHOOL. Take some of that money (if not all) and put armed guards in EVERY school. Don't you think that Newtown would not have went down like it did if there was a armed guard on duty. (Vets should have first chance at these jobs) The safest place for a bad guy to be is where there is NO GUNS.

Now watch the media pick that apart.

To bad you didn't get to see the protesters holding banners, blocking Wayne from view, and yelling against the NRA. I had hoped security would have expected this and screened the audience better.
 
The NRA has STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE WITH THIS ISSUE.:)

Wayne also said that your (the opposition) GUN FREE ZONES OF SCHOOLS program has failed.

He also called for a National Data Base of the Mentally Ill.

The NRA intends to develop programs on School Safety (Armed), and offer them to communities FREE OF CHARGE.

Asa Hutchinson will head this effort.
 
Wayne's talk was intelligent, practical, and factual. Unfortunately the anti gun movement in this country can rarely be described as having any of those qualities. They want our kids to be protected without offering them any real protection. I fear we will end up right back where we started, banging our heads against the wall in frustration.

How have our nation's priorities gotten so far out of order? Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses — even sports stadiums — are all protected by armed security.

Well, I just sent Wayne and Co. along with GOA some money. Merry Christmas fellas, it will no doubt come in handy in the months to come.
 
One thing we need to get out there in this debate is that most guns are owned for self defense purposes.
The major media is already saying the old.."we don't want to take away the hunters guns" **** again.
They will use this to divide the guns into hunting types and non hunting. This is right out of the UN handbook on Small Arms Treaty and will be used to take away anything semi auto or hi mag or even detactable magazine long gun.
 
I saw the red banner stating breaking news on the NRAs proposal and was very disappointed that MSN chose to only show the video of the protester holding up the banner and shouting. They chose not to show any of this important proposal. I immediately swithched my homepage from MSN to another. I will not give any buisness to a website who doesn't take security of my children seriously.
I've gotten two more friends who own guns to join the NRA. If there are any who frequent this website and or own guns of any sort please join the NRA now I'm tired of doing all your heavy lifting. We are fighting for our very rights here and we need much more help!
I heard an interview that the NY post editor , Fred Dickers, had with our NY Governor Cuomo and heard words like confiscation, permits and bans from the Governors mouth. We are in the fight of our lives right now and can't afford to be complacent.
 
Boys and Girls,

This idea of protecting our children (students) is a grass-root movement that is picking-up support and
moving forward even before last weeks terrible murders in Conn.

Just last month, we had a superintendent of an area school(s) system, a teacher and a principal of school(s) attend a CCW class.
More and more are following suit.

Even State instructors for 'Response to Active Shooter Training' has offered to assist in training.

Those that would not or could not stand up against Madalyn Murray O'Hair and her kind, are now,
with their own lives at risk are looking to self-reliance.

In smaller rural communities, common sense is going to be the rule of the day...Even if D.C. fails to lead,
there are leaders at the state and local levels that will step up.

I can see it coming from here...........

To me it is like Wayne threw down the right gauntlet. If Washington chooses to ignore security in schools and goes the way of confiscation and registration, et al we know that it is just a matter of time before (God forbid) another incident of this type rears it ugly head. I would not want to be "on the committee" that registered guns and chose not to secure our schools. I really believe we have a line drawn in the sand on this issue.

That is exactly what NBC Evening News did tonight!

Their main talking head is more concerned with rock bands as his heroes than he is in getting at real issues and helping to solve problems. (Brian Williams.)

What can you expect from a man who holds rock singers in such high regard that he thinks they're major news or the real American icons? Typical liberal newsman...Some of these people must have been hippies, or have come from that musical culture.

I watched it while I was waiting on my wife at the Drs. Office. He made some very good points. The media however is already picking it apart and just using what suits them instead of letting the public know the entire scope of what he said. I for one would be more than willing to patrol a school parking lot on a volunteer basis. The armed guards in schools makes a lot of sense and was proved out just a week or so back in the Oregon mall shooting. When the shooter realized there was someone else armed and ready to stop him he simply abandonded any futher attempts at mayhem. This has been proved out countless times in the past but, of course the slanted media will maybe give something like that a paragraph while the negative side will get half a page.I'm with Wayne 110%.
 
I find it surprising that some people are surprised at the broadcast media's "cherry picking" of LaPierre's speech, which was, after all, a stage-managed press conference speech, not a spontaneous reply to a question. Of course the sound bite line, "The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," was predictably plucked from of a half hour of dreary, accurate, boring facts and figures to which most TV and talk radio fans have an overt aversion. Those of us who have issued press releases, been guests on TV shows, or who have given interviews to TV "reporters" will have, or to their peril will have not, learned that reporters are generally ignorant, stupid, lazy, biased, and are also intellectual whores, more interested in sensationalizing a story to please their editors, who are generally of an even more despicably lower class, than accurately, fairly, and honestly gathering facts and portraying an incident or event in its true light. No news organization could reasonably be expected to air the entirety of NRA's statement (NPR offered it online, along with a transcript, as may have other outlets...), but the point was made. Now, let's see the objections to the School Shield plan...

Sheep Don't Like Sheepdogs

Well, I already posted this but it seems to go with the spirit of the thread, so her goes...

This is the picture in my mind's eye:
The sheep are bleating, no surprise. They don't like sheepdogs, because they have fangs and look too much like wolves. And the sheep resent having the sheepdogs herd them. But when the wolves do come, then sheep blame the sheepdogs if they are not there. (credit to Col. Grossman for the simile)

Wayne came out like a sheepdog today, when he said ".. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." The sheep were shocked! They have no fangs and can't comprehend using them. But I think this is the plain truth we need to push to the sheep- when you call for help, who do you want to be there RIGHT ****ING NOW? A good guy with a gun. A sheepdog.

This is a "common sense" solution, and it will drive the banners nuts trying to say it isn't so. They can only get so far lying, either to themselves or to what they consider "their" constituency. But, more Americans own guns than anytime in the last 20 years, and they know why they own them. I think we're in for a good fight, but I have confidence in the future, if we can all push in the same direction. If you still think the NRA is not at the point of our flying wedge, you haven''t been paying attention. And like it was popular to say in the "60s, if you aren't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.
 
It's impossible to rationally engage the antis in any productive discourse. I'm convinced now that there is no middle ground ... the opposition is too fanatical, hateful, and delusional. Gun owners and 2A supporters are portrayed as unlawful savages just waiting to start an Old West shoot 'em up on every corner. I read a variety of antis' sentiments to LaPierre's speech today, ranging from, "We don't want more Zimmermans!" to "Eliminate firearms!" How do you counter that lunacy with any practical solutions? I'm approaching what some consider middle age, and I have never seen our country as divided as it is today. Over the past six weeks, this proud nation has become polarized beyond return. Having my own beliefs in 2A assailed and slandered, I got a small sense of what Vietnam Vets dealt with upon arriving home and being subjected to anti-war insults and poisonous diatribes. I am as angry as I am heart broken.
