Well, I can make Foo-Foo coffee again.

A good espresso is hard to beat. I have the little stove top pot. Works great, a nice boost in the afternoon.

I worked as a Starbucks barista while going to college after I retired from the service. Pretty good gig, all the free coffee drinks you wanted while working and a free pound of beans--except for the really expensive ones--each week. This was before Starbucks went nationwide and downhill shortly thereafter. I still drop in for a hazelnut latte every now and then but have to tell them one squirt and one squirt only of the syrup or else it is sickening sweet. The stores now are just stores, not the atmosphere it originally had.

Lovely bought us a Nespresso (sp?) machine, the one with the half-spherical pods that makes pretty good Foo-Foo covfefe. I just finished one off...good stuff, and no mess to clean up.

I had a Nespresso machine. It was great at making coffee. The unfortunate thing is back then it just used proprietary pods only available from Nestle. Was quite expensive, so I stopped using it. This one can use any coffee, no pods.

My gf went through "the agony and the ecstasy" (much of both) to learn how to make a good latte and has triumphed. She has settled on Peet's "Major Dickason" blend.

She has an online friend who went all out on his espresso machinery. We figure he has about $5k in this  If you have an itch, you gotta scratch it... if you have enough scratch.

J.S. Bach even wrote a little cantata about coffee, for the new Zimmerman's Coffee House in Leipzig. (Doubt they had lattes and espressos back then, however)

(Alas, some uncultured boor dropped a bomb on it in WWII. Who in their right mind would bomb a coffee house?)

In it Lieschen begs her fuddy old father not to be so harsh in criticizing her coffee habit:

If I can't have my llittle cup of coffee
three times a day
In my anguish I will turn into
A shriveled-up roast goat.

Cultural segment ending now as I need to get up and get my second cup of coffee :)

Not far off: The espresso machine is about $3600 and the grinder is about $400-$500. He probably has another $1000 in related accessories.

He works for the Federal Gov't in Ottawa, so I guess we're all sort of paying for it :) (And his wife is a lawyer.) I'm not sure if he had to fly to Germany for hands-on training to operate the espresso machine, though (!)
