What model? I just traded for a new Road Glide last week. I really like the changes for 09, especially the six speed.

The new XR1200 in orange pearl. I love my 02 Deuce but this one looks like a backroad burner! No I dident trade the Deuce!

Congrats on the new HD.
A couple years ago I went to the local dealer to ride off on a new one but after 30 minutes in the place they were still ignoring me so I dropped the idea and bought more guns.

That's funny. I just had the same thing happen to me at a Mercedes dealer. I was dressed like I normally am when out and about. Jeans, t-shirt and OC. I had a check with me to drive home a Mercedes, but after being on the lot for about 1/2 hour without any acknoledgement, I left. I went down and bought a new Jeep and a couple of guns.

I actually had the cash in my purse.
Now it looks more like S&W, Colt and Sako stuff.
I have another dealer nearby that handles Honda and something else. They've always been 101% honest with me and I always feel like I've been treated fairly. If I ever buy another bike, it has to come from their store.

That's extremely funny. If I were in either position, before I left I'd have rubbed their noses in how bad they blew it by ignoring me because I didn't meet the image of one of their typical customers. -Donald

A few years ago my Mom wanted a new Buick. She could afford to drive anything she wanted. I took her to the closest Buick dealer in LV. I was dressed for a summer day; jeans and t-shirt. She looked nice, but probably wasn't wearing the latest fashion. We walked into the show room and she looked at a Roadmaster. She told me that she wanted that one. I told her I would find a salesman. A smallish dark man came over and actually frowned at us. He said, "You know these cars are very expensive." I said, "I'm sorry, I thought that you were here to sell them, not comment on their expense." I took my Mom's hand and led her out. I looked across the street at the Continental Dealer and asked her what about one of those? She said that she liked them too. We went over and she bought a very nice two door Continental Coupe and wrote out the check. She was afraid to drive it home, so she left in my car. I drove across the street and drove right by where the Buick salesmen were standing in the shade. I honked the horn, put my left hand out the window pointing down at the car. When I saw that the salesman that was rude to us was looking I gave him the finger and drove off their lot. I laughed all the way home. After that every time I had occasion to drive the Continental I drove thru the Buick Dealer's lot looking for that salesman. I never saw him again. ........... :-) Big Cholla

Yeah, I just love rude salesmen, after buying my first house I stopped at a upscale furniture store in work clothes and a fat checkbook. Got stiffed by the snooties. Went to another store, spent a huge amount. Took reciept to first store and showed the manager and related the treatment I got on my first visit, was tempted to shove it down his throat! Same deal with a car dealer! I hate to act that way but sometimes ya just gotta!

You Dog! Did you sign up to reserve one last year....or did your dealer just happen to have one around?

Brian~

Joni, my girl friend had a similar experience. She had to go to 4 different Harley dealers before anyone would treat her seriously. But eventully she did find one she could work with and is very happy with her new 1200 Sportster.

I've had similar experinces. Couldn't get the time of day from Honda or Toyota dealers. Stopped by the Ferrari/Maserati dealer. Salesman gave me the keys to a $100K+ Maserati Quattroporte and said take it for a drive and let me know what you think... see ya in couple of hours. Go figure.

Bob, are you going to be a Harley owner or a Harley rider?

Many years ago when my wife bought her Audi I received similar treatment from the dealer. We had to meet at the dealership after work. I got there first and drove up in my bright red Dodge Ram Sport 4x4. I stood out on the lot for about 20 minutes and was ignored. I finally found a salesman and asked if he could help.

He asked if I drove up in the Ram. I said yes. He replied, "I'm sorry but you just didn't look like a typical Audi customer."

That should have been the first sign but it got better. The same salesman went into his speil about explaining what a turbocharger is to my wife in terms that even a 4 year old could understand. My wife who has her degree in engineering absolutely unloaded on him.

We dealt with the sales manager after that.

My wife just bought a 2009 GMC Sierra crew cab 4WD SB. I was there for support but she did all the negotiations. I was waiting for the sales manager to direct answers to her many questions to me,he did not. I think they are learning. I was waiting for the "now little lady", never happened. She enjoyed the shopping experience.

Some replys! Wyatt burp, yes, you a meanie, M28, just walked into my dealer and there it was, salesman was moaning about how they will never sell such a bike, got a good deal! Mark Cuda, I own two Kawasaki's and now two Harleys, yes I ride, about 16,000 miles a year on average between the bikes. Been rideing every year since 1971.

Bob, I was just givin' ya a hard time

Bob, I bought a 2003 Ultra and put 200,000 miles on it so far
icon_cool.gif

No, that is not a type O

Markcuda, compared to that, maybe I'm not a rider! Holy smoke's my high milage bike was a 73 Yamaha TX750 with about 88,000 on her when I sold it. What sort of maintenance issue's have you had with your Ultra? I'm sorta new to the H.D. world and any tips would be appreciated.

Bob, if you plan on putting tons of miles on a Harley, just make sure you have a warranty

Mine was covered for 5 years, so, Harley lost money on that deal

Working for a Ford parts department sure gives me some insight to this stuff. Many salesmen are just like some of you have described. And it really irks some folks, as it should. Why then, if these people are so outdone with car salesmen, do they get those same salesmen to order their parts and accessories for them instead of going straight to the department that they come from? Then they wonder why their stuff never gets ordered......

When I was a youngster I paid for everything with cash. That was before 10 years of marriage and a divorce but that's another story.

Anyway I was at a Oldsmobile Dealership one evening in 1973 looking at a new Olds Cutlass when this used car salesman came out dressed like Herb Tarlick on the TV show WKRP Cincinnati and said "Son that one will cost you over $125 bucks a month in payments, let me show you something more in your price range." Now that was definitely not the way you wanted to engage me in conversation in those early years. Of course I'm a lot calmer now compared to those days.

Yeah Yeah I know but I'm tellin' the story so listen up.

With the fur standing up on my back and my girl friend holding on to the tail end of my shirt I chased the guy back into the office with a few thousand bucks clinched in my fist to let him know I had enough money to buy 2 of those damn Cutlasses if I wanted to with enough left over to buy his mother and wife if I so desired!! I left the place with the manager apologizing over and over again.

I went down the road to the Pontiac Dealer and placed an order for a new '73 Trans Am that very night.
