well I finally got a truck

it still sucks muley, unemployment is WAY up but I think I found a decent job paying +8.00 an hour

Are you still tattooing?

If your dad's a Master Tech then he can give you good advice. Be sure to do a coolant flush once you repair the leaks to try to get some more of the corrosion out.

yeah i am still tattooing here and there but if people don't have jobs then they can't get tattoos, but I am hoping for another despreate soul to bring me another smith for some ink

OK well I got the truck today and poured water into the radiator and when I looked under the truck it looked like water was leaking from in front of the tranny's pan? any thoughts?

Sounds like one of the freeze plugs in the rear of the motor between the engine and tranny.

I think so. I have never messed with one of these but I am sure the engine or tranny one will have to come out.

Check close to make sure its not comming from the back of a head or the intake.

Crazy, Looks like you got some choices here. Usually it's easier to drop the trany for this job. but if you pulled the engine it would be easy to replace all the plugs and maybe a few gaskets and seals. Any way you look at it,the fun won't stop with just doing the plugs. Best of luck.

If you do have freeze plugs that are bad, I have found that the best thing to use to put them back in is a deep well socket, about 1 in or 1 /1/4, will fit it perfectly.

A little sealant and a few taps and she should go right in.

No need to worry about some special tool or cut off a broom-stick or something, the socket will work fine.

Good Luck,

Bill H

thanks guys I think I am going to pull the engine and tranny and replace all the plugs and maybe redo all the seals and hoses, kinda like last week when I decided taking a 15-2 apart was a good idea, I got to know that revolver intamatly and it is cleaner than a whisle, I am going to know my engine well and have it running well too

ok well i am pretty sure it's a cracked block, now I have to hunt down an engine for cheap and the likely hood of that is nearly zero

I have a motor in an 85 S10 if you need one. Gets about 5 miles to the gallon with the DANA 60 with 456 gears and detroit locker.:D

With a little detunning it may get 10 mpg:D
and another 5 with taller gears.
It would do wheelies with the DANA 60 with 456's

sorry to here that:(

What makes you think the block is cracked?

There are 2 freeze plugs on the rear of the block that will not be visible until the trans is pulled and flywheel removed.

don't get too down on it. you said your dad is a mech here in tx. at the worst you might have to short/long block it. ask your dad if you are not familiar with any local machine shops or rebuilders.

I'm still curious about what you're finding to condemn the block?

well because on the drivers side of the block I can feel a ledge witha sharp edge about an inch above the freeze plug and it pours water and it isn't a headgasket
