Retired a year and a half ago after 30 years. After the county elections in November, a local official realized that his investigator got elected to another office. He called me last week to talk about it. Long story short, I'm going back to work. Good news is that I get to continue some relationships I loved, and it's a job really in my wheelhouse. In addition, it will fund my pistol hobby to an elevated level. Bad news, it's gonna really hit my gym time hard. In three years, the amount of money I earn starts to impact my pension, but we'll deal with that when it happens. It will be the first time I've ever worked for an elected official, and since I'll be his right hand man and buffer, it should be an interesting ride. Wish me luck . . .

You'll realize again that works sucks soon enough! Nothing like a few months sabbatical to make you forget.... It's like a woman giving birth. If they remembered (or didn't have a subsidy), they'd never do it twice.

I think you're making a mistake, but that comes from an also retired person.
But, if you just can't stay away from it
, good luck.

I've worked for elected officials for 20+ years. I actually like it. I've learned that politics, at least on a local level, is like any other tool. It can be used for good or bad depending on the character of the person using the tool.

Go for it Muss. I'm many years past retirement age and still working full time, not for, but with, elected officials. Keeps me sharp, involved, moving, challenged, entertained, and out of trouble........

I retired four years ago and almost immediately started two part time jobs that mostly involved teaching. One didn't work out so well, but the other is pretty entertaining and makes me keep current on what's going on in EMS. Plus, I get to use my years of education and experience to help newer guys improve their skills.

Of course it also helps me fund my gun, holster, ammo, and electronics needs.

I retired almost 4 years ago. Worked for a brief time and quit. Had several other opportunities and passed. I prefer my own schedule and priorities. I can stay involved and active without dealing with someone else's BS.

Most work because we have no choice
Other's work to stay busy

Sound's like you will do the work because you enjoy it, and that is a blessing for sure.
Enjoy your " retirement "

Good luck to you.
Keep ya powder dry, and a finger on the trigger.

Thank you,
