I saw this one at my favorite gun shop yesterday. She'd just been traded in and hadn't been on the rack for more than thirty minutes or so. I did what any good red-blooded American would do - I put the entire contents of my wallet down for a layaway payment, didn't sleep last night, and returned this afternoon armed with more cash and trading material.

So new to the herd today...this. A select-grade 1945 Springfield Armory model, secondhand through the CMP. There's a couple of light scratches on the stock and some mild pitting on the front sight ears, but otherwise clean.

I kinda think we needs more bayonet.

Not just a bayonet (CMP is selilng bayonets now, incidenally); you need a sling, an 'oiler and thong case', probably a plastic one for that date rifle, a cleaning rod and combination tool to go in that second hole in the butt trap.

Good deal. Enjoy your rifle! I've been enjoying M-1 Garands since about 1990. Wonderful rifles. Every morning I get up at 6:30 and drink some coffee. Then... I pick up my service grade Springfield M-1 from Feb. 1956 and walk for 45 minutes holding it at either high port or trail arms... does wonders for one's arms and shoulders, etc.! It is one of my favorite rifles... right next to my 1903 and 1903-A3 rifles! Thank God for the CMP!

BEWARE,garandits is as bad(if not worse) than smithits,i started with 1 and within 2 years had all 4 mfg's in the safe,springfield,winchester,international harvester and harrington&richardson,the springy was reworked at springfield in 64 and shoots better than i can hold it
