After bragging for so long about how flawless my gun ran, the last two trips to the range have resulted in more FTEs and a couple of FTLs than I'd like, so I guess I'm sending it back.

So let me know if I have the process straight. I call them, have them email me a label, print it out, tape it to the box the gun came in, take all sights off my gun, put it in the box then take it to UPS? Also, did you guys seal the box with packaging tape?

Call S&W and they will mail you out a shipping label (USPS) get the label. Type up a nice text document describing the issues and put it in the box with the rifle. I sent mine back with no sights and no magazines. Go to your Fed EX shipping center and get two of the free Fed Ex shipping boxes to fit over your original box, peel and stick the boxes to themselves then go around them with some clear packing tape. Get the tracking number/receipt from the Fed Ex worker and go home.

Wait 5 or so days and it will come back to you.

It is possible to just drop it off? I work so I can't really be home for them to pick it up.

No. When it comes to firearms, an adult must be present to sign for it. Generally speaking, if you miss the delivery, you can usually arrange to pick it up at the local hub.

I feel your pain

Mine is all boxed up and I'll take it to FedExcuse at lunchtime. Since I'm having stovepipe jams, S&W asked for all four of my magazines.

I explained the problem and the guy said "yup, you need to send it in." Didn't ask for my magazines though, so I guess I'll leave them out. How long does it take to get the shipping label?

Depends on how you asked them to send it to you. Email, a day or two; snail mail, when it gets to you.

I called them first thing Wednesday and I received the shipping label by snail mail Friday. I'm on the way to Fed-Excuse now.

What's that song, "Take good care of my baby".

I called on Monday and they send they would send me a return label. It's Friday and I still haven't gotten it. This is from MA to NY. Do I call or wait?

Just be patient, don't call again because you may wind up with more than one shipping label and why just cause more confusion. Give it a little more time.

Still nothing. Since when does it take a week to mail something from MA to NY? Guess if I don't get it on Monday, I'll give them a call. Somebody once told me that S&W had great customer service, but I get better service from my cable company...

Yeah but it seems like lately there is no pleasing you....

Call them again and ask if they know when and how the label was sent to you. Mine came via snail mail and it took about a week.... But then again, I have patience and I didn't check my PO box every day for it.

My question is why are they not e-mailing these labels? After reading all the stories here I called S&W and pre-ordered a return shipping label in case mine broke. At the time (Oct 09), the lady at S&W asked me if she could e-mail it.

I wonder if S&W got a few days behind repairing these rifles and are trying to hold up the arrival of more rifles a couple days? Or maybe.... they just screwed up. Or maybe Cliff Claven has your label?

In any event... you've had a rough time of it lately with the rifle and scope. It happens....:( My time is well over due for a series BS things to occur.

S&W is not the only company to do it both ways. When I send back a certain brand of "rugedized laptop" they sometimes snail mail me a return label, other times they ask if they can email it. I guess it all depends on the work load and the tech you speak with.

So I should be pleased with a rifle that malfunctions, a scope that crumbles in my hands, and S&W not doing something they said they'd do? Lol...
