I had a voice mail message this morning from an unrecognized, unidentified number, with a recording that began "This is an effort to contact (long, pause, no name given). I received an order in my office this morning to file an order relating to several matters on which you are being investigated." It went on at length, with the woman saying they needed my address and place of employment so I could be "served". Said not replying constituted forfeiture of my right to defend myself in these matters, and there would be a complaint filed in my "local county". Gave me a phone number to call--not the one showing on caller ID, or even the same area code--and a "case number".

Hey, lady, find some honest employment.

That sounds like the IRS scam that's been around with a twist on the words.

If these people worked as hard at a real job as they do trying to fleece people they might find that making an honest living is more rewarding.
I know, don't blast me, they don't have the mental capability to understand right vs wrong.

I still can't seem to combat the numerous phone calls like the one that says that you owe IRS and call immediately or you'll be arrested. Or the Microsoft tech support calls. I've tried all kinds of techniques but they only seem humorous to me and don't do anything to stop the calls. Junk mail is another matter as well. I usually take the postage paid return envelope out and stuff it full of other junk mail and send it back. I try to jam in as much as I can. They have no idea where it comes from and I can just hope that it at least takes some of their time in opening it and throwing it in their recycle bin rather than mine.

I got maybe half a dozen calls saying they were looking for some guy and I should call the number informing the guys where abouts. My guess is they wanted me to call the number which I wasn't going to do.
I got a call supposedly from the Sheriff dept. saying I should contact them immediately. I called and they didn't have any idea what I was talking about.
There are all kinds of scams going on these days and what's bad is many people fall for them and it costs them dearly.
My phone will ring and when I answer it there is nobody there. I come to expect a call from an NRA phone solicitor at that time the next day.
