Before I start, please let's not make this about vac's . Just ranting. We usually have our traditional family Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve at our house and then go over to my daughter's Christmas morning for breakfast, and then back to our house for the opening of presents. My daughter called yesterday afternoon and told us my 21 yr old granddaughter has just tested positive for Covid. They won't be able to come for dinner tonight or the rest of the traditional activities so it will just be my son and his two kids. My granddaughter is really big on Christmas traditions so she is more than upset. They all live close so we just postponed the traditions with them for later. The part that really irritates is that she's fully vaccinated takes precautions when she's out. I guess it's another one of those breakthroughs. So it's last minute changes and only half the family doing Christmas at this time. I guess it's better than no family. Rant over and Merry Christmas to you members of the best forum out there.

You're probably not the only one that has this happen to them. So far no one in my family has called to cancel plans, but I'm holding my breath.

I hate to say it but I'm having a hard time believing the media that the infection rate for vaccinated population is 1%. I'm hearing from friends that are vaccinated and tested positive. And the friends that have steadfastly refused the vaccine are still doing well too.

Myself I'm vaccinated and have even had the booster. But I admit that I don't trust the vaccine when those that are vaccinated still have to wear masks and follow the same precautions as the unvaccinated.

I feel your frustration, I think all of us are there too. Enjoy your family and life while you can it doesn't last forever. Above all have a Merry Christmas.

Our only son tested positive just before coming home for Christmas. I understand your feeling. He is fully vac'd and boostered and has no symptoms. Fortunately he was able to get home three times over the past year. Just my wife, myself and of course the dog for Christmas tomorrow.

Everyone do the best you can.

I don't know who's saying 1% for Omicron but it's clearly higher. NY has probably the best data so far....

"The week of Nov. 29, days before New York reported its first omicron case but weeks after the variant had likely started spreading, data shows a 77.4% vaccine effectiveness rate for preventing new cases among those aged 18 to 49 and 80.3% and 92.6% rates, respectively, for those in the 50-64 and 65 and older age groups. In the most recent week assessed, those numbers were 66.4%, 77.3% and 93.3%."

We've both got it so I get the frustration. Most of the fam lives close so we can celebrate later except my daughter will be 1200 miles away by the time we aren't infectious -bah humbug 2 in a row!

Sorry to hear about the changes, and hope you will make the best of a bad deal.
I have a very good friend who was forced to cancel his Christmas family get together and meal. I am afraid this is happening all over the country.

Got the same problem here. Daughter has Covid (Omnicron) now. She got the Covid last spring at work. Got over it and got vaccinated. Now she has it again. She works in a doctors office and gets it from the patients who come in with it and are to stupid to stay home. They can and do offer video links with the doctor and Nurse Practitioner for those who are sick. But they come in and infect the staff and by the time the first person figures out they have been infected, they all seem to be getting it. This round is 6 staff members so far. Glad I have retired from the medical field.

Stinks but good that she was responsible and got tested before coming to Christmas and spreading it around. Hope she has a mild time and kicks it quick.

I have a fully vaxed buddy who is currently visiting family in England. The way omicron is breaking through over there he'll be lucky if he is let back into the US before Xmas '22.

My neighbor friend, all vexed up and with booster shot tested positive for covid.
Although no symptoms, went to doctor for meds. Doctor tested again, test was negative. Has now been tested for the forth time. Test is negative.
Must be some false positives out there with the various test kits.
Four days, four test, last three were negative .

I sympathize............ Our daughter is in the hospital, went in for a surgical procedure, had an unexpected issue and is stuck there until they release her. Meanwhile our son tested positive for the china bug. He's only mildly sick but it means Christmas with the grandkids has to be rescheduled. Oh well, things can always be worse

Our whole house is "immunized" and we've all just (as in yesterday) tested positive for Covid. ****! rotten to spend Christmas this way but we're all together and hopefully the symptoms won't be as pronounced as those who hadn't been vaccinated. Merry Christmas to all!

Tuesday night, 10 hours before heading up north on Wed morning, my SIL calls to tell us her two children were exposed to Covid by a friend of theirs.
They all went bar hopping in Manhattan on Saturday night.

Chris found out he had it on Tuesday night after standing in line for 11 hours to get tested.

Trip cancelled.

My family is fully vaccinated. It helps to prevent serious illness if and when you get infected. Are there other treatments that also work to some degree?- yes, evidence seems to say so. Personal genetics also seem to be a huge factor in illness level. Both extremes of this debate really annoy me.
