Guys it is shameful. The store is a far cry from the original Cabela's. Looked for some pants. Only thing they seem to have is overpriced and just not worthwhile. Then went to the shooting/reloading section. cheapest powder they had was 40 dollars a pound. Primers?? SRPs and SPPs. Winchesters... 9.99 per 100. Guy behind the counter said they keep going up in price... I said no... Cabela's keeps raising prices. I can understand 'em selling them for 60 to 80 a thousand but guys they are just price gouging now. Ammo prices?? Federal 325s were 6 dollars a box more expensive than Wally World. Told the counter guy that and he called me a liar. 27.95 versus 21.16 at Wally. 6.5 Creedmore was 50 dollars a box Wally for same ammo was 35 a box. It is a shame what happened to Cabela's... But the same has happened to Bass Pro. I no longer need to shop there...or even keep a Cabela's credit card.

I think anyone who shopped at Cabela's knew this was going to happen when they sold out to Bass Pro. The first think.that came to mind when I heard Bass Pro Shops bought out Cabela's was, there goes a good store down the tubes! I always shopped at Cabela's instead of Bass Pro because the prices were better and so was the quality of the merchandise.

A few months ago I needed to buy another belt. I have been buying the Cabela's branded leather belts for a very long time and really liked then. Well you guessed it, no longer availavle, now only a cheaper made close to the same belt made by Red Head in Taiwan. How do I know? I bought it hoping it was going to be good, not even close. The leather is nowhere near as good, it's stiff, not soft like the original. I'm not happy...

Time to start looking for a new MasterCard...?

When the clerk called the OP a liar I only hope he asked for the store manager?

Cheers!

P.S. The Cabelas in Lake Grove makes the K-Mart business plan look pretty good...

Darn shame and sad to hear. Always gave them business in the past and been satisfied but now I hear this. Know what you mean concerning powder prices. Was at my range and a guy was shooting his smoke pole. Told me the powder bottle or container cost him $65!! Almost fell over as it looked kinda small to me! Find myself pretty shocked over the price of shotgun shells being a trapshooter. Now charging $11-12 a box!

Wally had 20 ga Federal target loads for about 8 dollars. I've shot lots of them. You can get about 3-4 reloads with the cases too. I didn't look last night at Cabela's. 1st time I have ever left Cabela's without buying something. Wife said to me she didn't need to come back either

I hate to kick a company that's on the way down,... but... I just bought an electronic coyote call from Walmart. I checked BP and Cabela's.... their website is exactly the same, and same prices. With shipping and tax... all in.... Walmart was 25% cheaper. At this time when everything is going up in price, the choice is clear.

I stopped going to Cabela's not because of pricing but service! Cut up my Cabela's MC that I had for over 25years. When Capitol One took over the credit dept I ended up with 4 new CC numbers in 3 months. Capitol One gives out a new number to ANY reoccurring monthly charge you have. Someone set up a fraudulent reoccurring charge on my original number!

All of these big box stores fail at some point. They reach a certain size, get bought by another giant retailer to limit the competition, and eventually fail.

A friend of mine worked for Cabela's. He told me a few months before that they were being purchased by BP. To him it looked like things were going south being an employee. He left and went to work for Sportsman's Warehouse. He has a lot of retail knowledge and heads up their firearms sales staff locally.

I guess I haven't been into our local Cabela's in about 5 years.

We have BassPro in Orlando. I haven't been in since 2004 when I hauled off 27 cases of WWB 9mm for $1100. No reason to go there, their flyer is available online. Prices are above Academy which is the "nearest to reasonable" retailer currently. They have Rural King down in Lake Wales but that's almost 200 miles R/T and I don't need anything. Joe

P.S. I bought 500 Hornady FMJ BTs 55gr for $30 ($0.11 each) after I used my Club Membership credit. Going to cancel the card and look for an alternative as my frequent flyer miles (on the only other card) are getting way up there and I haven't used any in 3 years.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

P.S. I do still like Jennifer Garner;): Samuel L. Jackson can go ...

Cabela’s in Dundee closed the Gun Library sometime after December 2019, I still kick myself for not picking up that BHP for 750 less 10% that day but I really didn’t want a .40 nickel finish model. I think they are using the Library as storage currently.

Earlier this year at the counter I was looking at the used pistols and prominently on the top shelf of the cabinet were three Hi-Point pistols, still had P.D. Inventory/case numbers on them in silver paint. Not much else, pickings were pretty thin.

I use 2 or 3 CCs. The ones I use the most are the Sam's Club card and the Costco card. I get moey back on both...not club points like Cabela's. At least I know they will have something for me to buy...not so at Cabela's any longer. I also have an Amazon CC that I charge the TV programs I watch and the Kindle Unlimited charge. I read MUCH more than watch TV and buy an item every now and then from Amazon. I no longer fly in the sardine can commercial airlines so don't need to get air miles. I worked crash and rescue on a large airport. Airline Maintenance these days is not what it was 25 yrs ago

I guess I'll chime in and agree with the majority of posters on Camella's.

Soon after BB bought out the store in Lacy, Washington; it took a leap off of a cliff as far as employee knowledge and care went. I quickly quite driving the 30 miles or so to the store as it wasn't worth it. Same for the Bass Pro store only 15 miles from the house.

It sure is not the same store as it was when pure Cabela's. I keep going back in the hope that the old times will somehow show back up. I bought some camo bibs online because my daughter gave me a gift card but that is my only purchase in a long time.
The stories of old familiar businesses that are gone is endless.

Hmm
Seen it, but never tried it.
Used to be gun library and ammo. Now it’s just the gun library.
