What is the policy in W Virginia on self defense in a motel/hotel room? I have not been able to find anything on the official state web-sites. Will be visiting our son who has been assigned to work there for three-months. We know W VA does not accept GA permits, but what about self defense in rooms?

Anyone?

If you are referring to West Virginia (WV), here's a copy of our Castle Doctrine.

SB145 SUB1

Some of the cities have some rather oppressive gun laws, but other than those, it is an fairly gun friendly state.

I'll PM you a source for more specific answers.

You should have no trouble in WV. The laws are very similar there to GA, and from the reading of Castle Doctrine, it looks like the hotel room is treated as your "legal residence" at least while you are actually in it.
Enjoy WV. Where are you going?

Vienna is a small town few miles north of Parkersburg, which is far more gun friendly than Charleston, South Charleston, Dunbar and Martinsburg.
Those are the ones WVCDL has lawsuits challenging their city property carry bans and/or restrictive handgun sales ordinances.

I've only driven through Vienna a couple times and I don't know much about it, but Parkersburg has some good restaurants, so SWMBO and I make the 60 mile trek from Point Pleasant every now and then.

Vienna is ok. I used to live across the river in Marietta, OH. Go over there and check that town out. It's got some really nice stuff also. All told, the entire area is friendly and the cops tend to be professional and sharp.
