Yeah like has been said the 1911 is meant to be and always should be a 1911. I have a Colt Gold Cup National Match if you want a 9mm the best is the.BHP but sig and smith tactical 9s are also very nice

The S&W Performance Center is just as good in the accuracy department and it is not "sticky" like a Baer. You will have to decide if the aggressive slide cuts in the newest S&W PC 1911s are for you. They are not for me, but everyone has different tastes.

Its really not necessary to decide whether you like the slide cuts on the new S&W PC 1911. For $1800 or so you can find the previous version in essentially new condition, and those S&W full size PC 1911's are some of the smoothest and most accurate guns around, for any money.

It looks to me like you have a rowel or commander hammer with a standard grip safety. That doesn't look like a beaver tail GS. I've always heard that they wouldn't work together. Do my eyes deceive me?

I have a Para P14, it's a tac driver. Also just got a SW E series 1911, Have not shot it yet but it sure is "Purdy".

I believe your eyes do deceive you!

It looks to me like what he has is a Commander Hammer with a Commander Grip Safety. The Commander Grip Safety has a rounded depression to allow it to function with what you describe as the "rowel" hammer, which is the traditional Commander Hammer.

I just picked this up and thought about selling it, but not now. Smith E-series 1911TA. Double Taps from the holster at 8 feet.

Thats what I want at 20/30 ft.

I have had several 1911's in my lifetime but the Colts are by far my favorite. I have a Combat Commander and a Lightweight Officers ACP right now. Coupled with a Sig P245 and a Sig P220 I feel I'm in pretty good shape with 45's right now. That P245 is a real sweetheart!

My first gun was a shiny new Colt Commander Series 80, 9mm for $335. It only worked with FMJ ammo. Anything else jammed into the feed ramp. People at work the used 1911 45acp in competitions told me the gun was not designed for 9mm and you have to take it to a gunsmith to have this or that done. I sold it. I'm not knocking Colt, that was a long time ago (1992). I was young newly wed with responsibilities, so I could only have one gun. They probably have the bugs worked out by now. I'm just sharing my experience. I still wish I would have kept it. The price of Colts only go up.

I am fairly new to 1911's…..I've got a Kimber TLE that is by far the most accurate semi auto I've ever shot……never had a fail to fire, or a fail to feed……..I've also got an Ed Brown on order…. there are a lot of 1911's out there……you will find the right one.

well for me i like the kimber custom II it wont break the bank and you get all the match grade goodies from the start and then you can start customizing to your liking to make it unique,yeah i started out with a $850 doller gun and now have about 1200 in it but its mine and there is only one like it,I call it my wilson/kimber/ed brown hybrid (haha)whatever you get enjoy it and have fun.

I have a Kimber Crimsom Custom Carry (5") and a Springfield Ultra Compact (3.5") . I would like to get the new S&W in a 4" model. They are all good choices, IMO.

I'm in the colt corner as well...beautiful,high quality 1911 and they have made them a longggg time....my most recent being the colt full size rail gun "100 years of service"
I'm not ruling out a S&W E series however

I would like a 1911, but I cannot see the wisdom in buying a 1911 in 9MM for nearly $1000. if you wanna launch 9MM bullets, there are far more economical ways to do it.

As for a .45, I would take a S&W 4506-1 over a 1911.

I have a Sig 1911C3, it is deadly accurate...
