My PC croaked a few days ago and since it was about ten years old was not worth fixing. Went out and bought a new one yesterday evening. Now I am not a computer guy, anything new throws me for a loop! The install guy who set up my cable modem four years ago for some reason used a USB port to run it. Went nuts trying to get that one to work in the new PC, not! Well finally got it up and running with the correct cabels and such. I was useing Windows 98 all those years and am now trying to get the hang of Windows latest gift of the Vista O.S.! Sorry for the rant but I needed to vent!

Vista. I'll bet you'll rant some more.

I got a new Dell 518 about three weeks ago with Vista premium 64 bit. I really like this thing. I hope I can learn all the bells and whistles soon. It is so much better than the old one.
Mine is pentiun 4,4GB, with 640 GB hard drive' It rocks.

Vista.............what a mess. I'm running Windows 2000 but my wife's new laptop has Vista. I hate it, she hates it, the tech hates it, and I think Bill Gates hates it because they are coming out with a new system...Vienna in the Fall or early Spring.

I went from Windows ME to Vista on my newest PC, so i feel your pain. It will get better the more you use it.

Hey dlstewart01, sounds like I bought the same PC. My old PC was a DEll pentium II 450, ran all those years without a single problem so another Dell was in order. At Least S&W dosent make a PC, it would have the lock!

I think it all has to do with your choice of hardware. I bought a Dell for my mother a couple of years ago with Vista. Celeron processor, 512MB ram. Very slow and frustrating. However, I just bought a new Toshiba laptop with Vista Premium 64 bit, dual processors and 4GB ram, and it's great.

I think two things happened with Vista. 1) They released it before it was ready, and 2) they had no idea how much hardware was going to be needed to run it properly.

...I was recently cleaning up some of my computer debris.....had original DOS Windows 3.1 and Win 97 discs!!!

Thought of contributing them to ....somewhere....

but they went out to my mass storage & transportation module....

I went from Windows 98 to VIsta-kinda like WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before I bought the thing , heeding what I had heard, I made sure I had enough storage to let VISTA do it's thing-You apparently need a minimum of 2gb ram or it freezes up. I got 4gb-best to be safe.
ANyway, not knowing anything but 98, Vista works just fine for me.

You're NOT alone. I'd suggest if you really feel that way you can purchase a copy of Windows XP-Pro and add it to your machine or have it added by someone who knows what they are doing if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. You can set it up so that it is what starts up or is the default or you can have your machine ask you every time you start it which system you want to use. I think you'll find it to be not too much different than your old Win 98.
