Just as the title says, what ammo and grain do you like to use in the 40c for home defense? (does not have to be a 40c just M&P in general.)

Barnes Tac-X PD, 140 gr. All copper, huge opening and deep cavity in the bullet. This round has low recoil.

Personal defense

My nightstand gun is a 40c talo with the extended mag. I alternate Federal HST with Hornady critical defense. Topped with 2 critical defense due to low flash. All 180 grain.

In my Sig P226 and P239 40S&W's I use 155 grain Federal Premium Hydra Shok for self defense. I know it's not a S&W but it's still a great defense round.

The reason I ask, my home defense rounds are hornady but they have been loaded for at least 2 years. Yes I use federal fmj for target but I just moved in to an apartment and I do not want over penetration to harm neighbors but I do want stopping power

I also use the Federal HST's in 180 grain, although I suspect the lighter bullets are good too.

There are some youtube videos of people testing them. Pretty useful information in making a decision in my opinion.

Liberty Civil Defense is what I carry in my Glock car gun. After seeing what it did to that deer I had to dispatch last year, I would hate to see what it would do to a person. I don't think a man could survive a shot to the chest area with these Liberty rounds even if he was shot in a hospital.

underwood ammo speer bonded hp, aka , gold dot 155gr . Home defense or carry .

I use Speer Gold Dot 165 gr in both the M&P40 & 40C. I also have some Federal HST 185 gr & Hornady Critical Defense 165 gr left.
