What are "nice" 2" 36s going for?

Was in a LGS on Friday ..... picked up a nice 2" Model 15 for $529(another thread in "1980 to Present"). There was also a nice "older" 2" 36 in the case. Priced somewhere in the $450 range IIRC.

The 36 has been haunting my thoughts...........

Got a early 640, 3" 60-10 and a 337PD.

So what is the market for older 36s???

I'd say $450 is a great deal for a clean, classic Model 36.

Just got home from a small local gun show where a LNIB sample was going for $600. It was super nice but too rich for my blood.

Hard to leave behind good guns at good prices.......been avoiding gun shops for the past 3 years......several have closed in the area!

I paid $500 for one in very good condition a few years ago. I expect a nice one these days to go north of that.

I've seen them range from $500 to $750. There are plenty around - you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

"nice 'older'" doesn't really give us much to go on in this forum.

The earliest Chiefs Special I've noted that's stamped with a model number shipped in September 1958. It's in the 132xxx serial number range.

Classic Arms has some in stock. Beat to hell for $400-$500. I don't know if they are South American LE trade ins or what but they are thrashed.

Two Bit, I may be, probably am, wrong. The serial number on mine is 151271. I took the date from Supica. And then, too, you know how S&W serial numbers jump around, so I might be right? anyway 132 to 151 is less than 20,000 j frames.

Two blue 2" Model 36s bracket yours on my list. They are 1512xx & 1519xx, and they both shipped in April 1959. If yours is also a blue 2" I'd suggest it falls mighty close to these other two.

Now, if yours is nickel or a 3", it could be up to a year different, but it probably wouldn't be earlier.

FWIW, there're two here in Pahrump at two different shops. Both pinned and 97% or better for $695, IIRC.

I think $450 is a good price. Paid my baby sister $400 for one she wanted to be rid of, but that was the friends and family price. She said she'd have take $50 for but I couldn't do that.
