I'd like to buy one in a few months or so. I have never owned or shot a 1006, just a 610 and Glocks. Is there anything I need to know or need to watch out for? (good or bad) Any info and advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Never heard anything bad about any of the Smith 10mm's. They are built like tanks is what i hear most. I owned a 1006. It was an excellent shooting firearm. It really tamed the 10mm round but that was with the current manufacture stuff. Double Tap makes "real" 10mm though. Never tried it with hot 10mm but cant see why it wouldnt be just as pleasant. I paid 550 for a like new in box one about 6 years ago but sold it for 7. 7 is kinda high for a 1006 but where i live it was a ok deal. You should be able to get a real nice one between 550 and 650 i think.

I have a 1006 and have fired just about every commercially made ammo. NOTHING seems to bother this gun. About 3 years ago, someone gave me a box of custom ammo to try. When I shot it at the range, after 5 rounds I noticed I had a large group around me just watching. They all wanted to know "what the hell" was I firing. The flame front was easily 2' from the barrel in broad daylight. The 1006 handled it with no problem at all. Other than the current cost of 10mm ammo, I see no real issues with the 1006.

I have had offers of 750 for mine within tha last 6 months. That has nothing to do with worth... depends on how bad someone wants one.

Thanks guys, sounds like there is not to much to worry about except finding one with a decent price tag.

Anywheres from $550-$800 depending on condition, box, papers, tools and number of magazines with the deal.

Give some consideration as to adjustible sights, these are better suited for target or hunting over the non adjustible sights...

Good luck!

Just picked up a used 1066

Hi 629shooter,
I just paid 650 for a used 1066 in pretty decent condition. Of course, that was in California. With our stupid gun laws finding an older gun that we can buy is a problem and makes them more expensive.

On the 10mm forum on AR15dotcom one of the members just bought a never fired still new in the box 1006 for 750. I think that was in North Carolina. The prices that other posters have mentioned sounds about right to me.

Good luck in your search for the 1006.

Yeah, I think the $850-$1000 is a bit steep. That is a good point Shadow 1006, I will look for one with adjustable sights.

Great pistol, love mine. I paid $700 for mine with adjustable sights, original box and papers in exc cond. about a year ago.

all I've been seeing is ads for ones for atleast a grand, nothing below it.

Like many others, I have also owned a 1006. It is definitely a tank. A very well built tank. It handled everything that I could throw at it from the tepid stuff currently available from the major ammo sources to the heavy stuff available from the specialty ammo sources. I bought it used, and it was as tight as a bank vault. Many years later, when I sold it, after somewhere between 4 and 5000 rounds through it, it was still as tight as a bank vault.:)

I paid $575, according to my records, over 20 years ago. I sold it for $675 when I sold it. Not because of anything wrong with the gun, but because of things wrong with me (arthritis in the hands and wrists). I sold all of my big boomers.:(

I forgot to mention that I didnt sell mine because of any problems with the pistol. I mostly sold it to fund another purchase and mainly sold it due to the high cost of factory ammo. If you dont reload it can get very expensive to shoot. Around here 30 bucks for 50 rounds was cheap. Specialty ammo was anywhere from 40 to 60 bucks per 50. For me it was a show piece more that a shooter due to the cost of shooting it. Something to look into before plunking down 500 to 800 bucks on one.

I own a 1006. It fills the hand nicely. I reload for it because as mentioned by others, ammo is costly. It does indeed draw attention at the range with its muzzle blast. I traded a Winchester Trapper and a "c" note to get mine. It is a keeper!

Good points on the ammo, there is a significant cost. But, Ive been shooting a good amount of 10MM in the past three years. So I'm getting a fair amount of brass collected. I figure next spring I will be reloading. When/if I buy a 1006 It will be another 10MM for my collection. (I like the cartridge a lot.:D) Its quickly becoming my favorite automatic cartridge.

I'm more of a shooter than a collector. So, a 1006 owned by me will see some rounds.

Hi,
Depends on availability in your area. I spent a year looking for a sub-$800 one. I would say $500 - $700 is a good range depending on condition.

These pistols have gone insane on gunbroker 700 and up without a box and with a box I have seen over 1200 with bids.i would love to have one but that is outta my reach for the money.

Box??????

I've never actually seen a box that would shoot....

1006

I picked mine up Saturday. 1006, adjustable sights, 1 mag, hogue grips, no box for $424.

Guys, Georgia Arms has 10 MM FMJ's for around $20 and JHP's for $25 for 50 rounds, even less if you buy bigger lots. If you don't reload this is the way to go.

Georgia Arms - 10 MM

Last March I bought this used #1006 with two mags, no box or papers, for $235.71 + sales tax. I got lucky.
