In a move far more significant to me than to anyone else, I have replaced my traditional "Want List" with a new list called my "2016 Possibilities List." :) Probably sounds like BS or semantics, but its a recognition on my part that my 3rd Gen collection, and my firearms collection overall, have matured to the point where there is nothing more that I've absolutely got to have or else. :D It's also a recognition that 2016 can't be a repeat of 2014 or 2015 despite the latest loud noises from the gun grabbers... although the latter will probably slow down my plan to sell off certain guns that I felt I no longer needed.

In the end, the last remaining 3rd Gens left on my old Want List really weren't/aren't very high priority. :o I think I've got all the bases covered except for 10mm... but 10mm is not "reality" for a poor, old, retired collector dude living in crazy-restricted Massachusetts. :o Likewise, I'm resigned to the fact that costly Performance Center models are never going to live in this poor man's collection. :( I'm done buying duplicates, parts guns and upgrades. I just can't afford the luxury of that sort of thing any longer.

In the end, my 2016 Possibilities List came out very, VERY short... which I suppose is a good thing since I am pretty much dirt broke and hungover (financially) from last year's purchases. :D My main goal will be to find a Model 457S in tip-top "as-new" shape with a Model 4513TSW as a more likely possibility and back-up. A pristine perfect CS45 is also on the list... mainly as a replacement for my "used & abused" CS40, which I've long wanted to dump. And that is it!!! Well, at least for 3rd Gens.

All this got me wondering... Is your 2016 list as short as mine? Or do you have bigger 3rd Gen plans in mind? :D

Until a couple of weeks ago I did not even know what a 3rd Gen was. Then I purchased a 5906, on this forum, at what I thought was a good price.

A few hours of research before purchase brought light to the full size, complete stainless, beauties I believe are referred to as 3rd Gen.

I was so enamored by the 5906 that I started to look for others. Then I found out about the 4006, 4506, and 1006. Wow, 3 more full stainless wonders that I have to have. Then there are the variants with alloy frames such as the 4513 and others that I am reluctant to cloud my reverie with.

My immediate 2016 goals are the 4006, 4506, and 1006.

They just do not make them like that anymore.

I'll play-

1. a 915 to replace my 59 and 5906 as a "hi-cap' CCW (which I carry about 10 times a yr, max)
2. I wouldn't turn down a blued CS9 (with some wear & tear, of course! Have to do something about those grips, though...)
3. A 1066, at a somewhat reasonable price (not sure why I want one, just do)
Like a lot of us, I don't need any of these, but you asked for a list, so...

The other option that's floating out there is one I've been weighing for awhile, and that's to start "de-collecting" my Smith autos, and stepping into the 21st century for my CCW needs. I've fought the urge for awhile now.

Or I could go back to my old love, the 1911/Hi-Power style. I seem to get restless every 5-7 yrs or so.

Instead of dumping the CS40, rechamber it to 10MM and you will have a CS10. I pocket carry mine

Like you, my collection is very robust and there are no "gotta haves" any longer.

I never make a "List" I just stumble on stuff when looking in pawn shops or going to shows.

That being said I would like to find a SD356 to add to the 3566 Limited and 3566 Compact I stumbled on late last year.

A 3913 makes a great companion to a 5906. Just sayin...

Are they both 10s? And if so, can I have one?

At some point I would like to have a mint condition model 65 3" bbl. As a sign at a gift store I visited recently said "Need has nothing to do with it".

I am a novice at this... How is the conversion to 10mm done?
There are numerous threads on the Forum that go into detail on the CS40 and 4013/4014/4053/4054 conversions to 10MM so I will be brief here.

Four easy steps to a CS10:
Rechamber the barrel to 10MM
Change the recoil spring to a more powerful one
Add a frame buffer
Remove the spacer from the magazine

DONE

pete,
Yes they are both 10MMs. I do not believe in 40S&W

I have a third CS40 waiting to be converted, it is the two tone. That way I have one of each :)

Not exactly- you need one with a blued frame/SS slide, and one the other way around. See how I help here?

Those are fine! I'm envious.

Unless I find some unbelievable, incredible, once in a life time deal I'm allocating my money for mags and ammo

Great question that I need to address and I am leaning toward Arik's thinking.

This was my first year buying handguns with emphasis on S&Ws, especially SS 3rd Gens. Likely paid a premium for my 39-2, 3906, 5906, 4006. 4566TSW and 5946. I have passed on 3 1006s BUT now wish I had not.

Being a little more selective on condition, accessories, etc and PRICE will make 2016 FUN!

4566 in beautiful condition is at the top of the 3rd Gen list.
A 3953 in good condition for a decent price is next.

The bad news is that the 3Gen list is behind my -1/-2 revolver wish list.

Hooked!!! :D :D :D

As of this week, my ammo supply is at 97% of legal capacity (yes, my nanny state regulates that too!). Not bad given how much I'm consuming lately... but obviously there is still a little room left for improvement. :D

Instead of dumping the CS40, re-chamber it to 10MM and you will have a CS10. I pocket carry mine.

The CS40 is a gun I never should have bought. :( It was bought at a low point when I thought I'd never get a shot at a better one or one at a lower price locally... so I took "used & abused" (not just "honest wear" but somewhat damaged too) and I've never been happy with it. Ironically, it is the only 3rd Gen that I've ever carried... since further damaging it is not an issue. :p

Anyway, I wouldn't go 10mm in a small, alloy-framed pistol. :o My old hands don't need that punishment. :D It would have to be in a steel-framed, full-size pistol. :)

Stumbled upon "deals of opportunity" are always a possibility I suppose... but they would have to be awfully darn good deals for me to consider them in 2016. :)

At the risk of derailing your fine thread...

Mostly that I like guns. All kinds. I've been toting around one 3rd Gen or another for about 4 yrs now (although I usually switch to wheelguns in the summer months, as they tend to fit my outdoor activities better.) While I truly admire the folks on here that have been carrying the same Colt since '52, variety is the spice of life.
Couple this theory with the fact that I shoot my lady-friends Glock 19 better than any 3rd Gen I own (not enough to fret over when you're talking about self-defense needs, more like the shooting bottle-caps-at-50-ft type stuff), and it's at the very least given me the inclination to "modernize" a bit. If only I wasn't leery of those safe (???)- action triggers....
Or, as I stated, I could go back to SA autos, but that's pretty doubtful.

My accumulation puts me at ...... "targets of opportunity"....AKA; great deals and "Gun Shop Saves"
But how do you decide? You must have some general idea of the possibilities and prices you'd consider?

Somehow, I think we're talking upscale PC models here. :D You rich, young studs can still afford them under the infamous Bam-Bam Formula. :p

Dang! How much can you have?
Oh, it's enough. :) It's not crazy low like some of the insane proposals being floated around. ;)

It's limited in the regs on a "per building" basis.

The way I see it, I just need a retirement place with multiple buildings and I'll be all set. :D

Yes, that place is called Pennsylvania. See ya soon!

LOL!!! :D I spent a whole lot of time in Pennsylvania during my working years. :) Nothing whatsoever against the state... but my roots and kids are here in New England (for better or worse). :)

No worries Pete! :)We'll forgive you if you want to play with plastic for a while. ;) Heck, I carry plastic myself. :D

Cheap, lightweight throw-away guns have their place... and don't let anyone tell you different! :D
