Side Guard Holsters (member name Srigs in this forum) made me an IWB holster for my 686 2.5". Great holster. That and a good belt allows for comfortable concealability all day, and the 686 is not small/light gun. Many people can't tolerate a revolver that size IWB, I don't have a problem with it using that rig. As to the 4 incher, I don't carry mine concealed so I can't help you there. Some of these guys carry N frames so I'm sure someone will have some good advice for you.

Also check out Lobo Gun Leather. His products get good reviews in this forum.

I carry almost daily. I also rotate through several handguns. I have I believe 8 Lobo Pancakes at this time.
I recommend the Lobo Enhanced Pancake with Optional Inner Hammer Shield. It comes detail boned standard.

It is a custom holster so you get your choice of 4 colors.
The Enhanced Pancake has belt tunnels, you pick the size for your belt.
I believe the current cost is $70 and about a 4 to 5 week delivery time on the order.

This is what my normal e-mail order looks like:

Ray I need another Holster

Model: Lobo Enhanced Pancake $65
Handgun: S&W Model 686
Barrel Length: 4" Note has Full Under Lug
Carry Side: Right Hand
Color/Finish: Medium Tan
Belt Size: 1.5"
Option: Add Inner Hammer Shield $5
Total $70

Please verify price, and provide a mailing address, and I will get a check in the mail.

My Shipping Address is:

Thanks Ray

Ray does not take plastic. As soon as he gets your e-mail order, you are on the build list.

Note: With a 4" Barrel you will probably not be able to access your right back pocket carrying at 4 O'Clock. No issue with the 2.5". I normally carry my billfold in my right rear pocket. When I carry a 4" I change pockets I am carrying my billfold in.

I really like Rays holsters, as evident by the fact I have 8 of them. His prices are not bad at all for a custom holster. Build time at 4-5 weeks is reasonable. So far every holster I have ordered has been a dandy.

Went to the site really like the enhanced model pancake and wonder how high does the hammer shield go enough to keep my love handles safe? I see you order one as well. Would like to see your 686 in the holster when you get a chance please post.

I do have a 686, however I do not have a Lobo for it. Me wife took it over years ago for her house gun. She has a Lady's Kramer for it. I was just showing what needed spelled out on an order. Gun Model, Barrel Length, What kind of Ejector Shroud, Belt width, etc.etc. On a custom holster order he needs to know all of this. You get a better fit than a generic fits all holster with a Lobo. Since he bones the holster to the exact profile of your gun.

Here would be an example of 3 K Frame holsters that are all different when custom fit to your gun:

K Frame 4" 617 (Full Ejector Shroud)
K Frame 4" 64 ( No Shroud)
K Frame 4" 66 ( Partial Ejector Shroud)

I have my 4" Model 64 out. The Hammer Shield comes up approximately 1.5" on the back. It is approximately 1.5" wide at the base. With my 64 in the holster It looks like if you could cock the hammer, the hammer arc would pretty much follow the top of the hammer shield. The back edge of the hammer shield is straight above the bottom of the cylinder. It is completely out of the road getting a grip on the handgun.

I am a little fluffy myself. The Hammer Shield helps reholstering, it also helps to keep your shirt out of the holster when reholstering, also it should help keep your shirt cleaner when your gun is dirty. Last it is between the point on the hammer and your side. This might help in certain positions, like leaning sideways, or seated in a vehicle. For $5 it is a good thing to add to your holster in my opinion.

This is a Lobo w/hammer guard for an N frame 2 1/2" 310 NG. Hope it helps with your decision. I'm 185 pounds and the L frame, of course, is smaller than the big N.
