What "brand" is your AR?

As I have heard it, when it comes to ARs, the upper is the rifle. Not to say the lower receiver is unimportant, but the barrel and bolt (among other upper receiver parts) are the components that control much of the accuracy, reliability, and durability of your rifle.

The above is very true except for a match gun, if you hold on to the upper with one hand and the lower with another hand. Then flex the two like you were going to break it into. If you feel any slop in it you are talking inches on the target in a rapit fire match. The upper and lower must fit together tight.

I have yet to have the opportunity to put together a match gun. Thank you for the information.

Yes and no.
The slop MAY cause a slight variance, but the determining factor is always the upper.
Sights, barrel, and bolt are all in the upper, as long as they're true, the lower is nothing more than a firing pin actuator.
Excessive play might cause a problem with cheek weld, but in rapid fire would still be negligible.
More likely it would become apparent over longer distances.

My .22 AR is a M&P. My first AR was a Bushmaster ORC with an Osprey Piston kit. When I sank further into the black rifle, I ended up with a LMT rifle. They make a very fine weapon.

Technically, the Feds will call it an S&W. Only the lower is serialized and considered the "firearm".

Yeah, I can tell people that i "built" the gun when I actually stuck two pieces together. :)

I was looking at triggers at Brownells and Midway. Does the S&W lower have the .308 pin? I got no clue. Brownell's has the SSA-E Gissele trigger for $210. I'd rather spend around $100 on a trigger if any of them are any good.

I assume you want to know if the M&P-15 is a large or small pin trigger? If so it is SMALL PIN (.154) and any AR-15 small pin trigger will work in the M&P. I don't know what a '.308 pin' is but expect that is a caliber and not a pin size. As for the $100 trigger check out the RRA National Match 2-Stage RRA Two Stage Match Trigger Kit-AR0093NMK
Good luck with your 'build'.

Mine is a Daniel Defense M4 Version 1. I have changed out the pistol grip for a Magpul and added a Magpul AFG. But for the most part it is how it came from the factory. Oh and I did a trigger job on it as well.

Thanks for the info. A number of the triggers were listed with the small .154 pin. I thought the 308 was a bigger pin, but it may have been caliber.

I'll check out the RRA trigger. Thanks for the link.

No problem. BTW I forgot to mention that I actually have this trigger and it rocks!

I just got my first AR15 platform rifle last month. It is an XCR-L made by Robinson Armament out of Salt Lake City, UT. Caliber is 5.56 NATO and it is a kick in the ars to shoot.

I know next to nothing about these but I know I love this rifle and I sure feel better owning it now that all these zombie stories are coming to real life. :)

I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

I purchased a Sig Sauer 716 Patrol and it is one smooth shooter. Was fortunate to aquire it through Sig's LE purchase program to make it affordable..
