I'm retired, take care of myself, A1C around 6.

"Numb hands night". Sleeping wrong? Solvents?

Back in the day I was a mechanic, washing parts in a tank, no gloves. I'd would have to get up at night, dance around and shake my hands to get feeling.

Now, not as bad.

What's going on? Carpal tunnel?

Sounds like Carpal Tunnel symptoms to me. Mine is worse than just having my hands go numb at night, but I also occasionally wake up with 1 or both hands giving me problems. And if I do hard work such as hammering makes it worse. But surprisingly, shooting doesn't aggravate my Carpal Tunnel at all. They sell some wrist braces at Walmart that will help alleviate the numb hand problem while you sleep.

I've the same problem. This might sound odd but, before I go to sleep I position my hands open and flat with my fingers straight. So far it's worked for me. I used to wake up with my hands in a cramped bent position and they were numb. I'm sure I move my hands around while asleep but it's working.

Poor circulation. I find it happens to me if my hand is higher than my heart while sleeping or if I am resting my head on my hand. As I've aged, I have found I do not move around in bed while sleeping as much as I did when younger. If I fall alsleep with my hand under the pillow I wake up with a numb hand under the pillow. I hate to think about what my hand would feel like if I did not wake up every two hours to go to the bathroom. :o

I attribute all my aches & pains to just getting old.
No way around it.
I used to laugh when old timers (60+) would say,
"If I knew I'd live to be this old I'd of taken better care of myself at your age young man".

And the don't sit on concrete, you'll get ....................

Have a similar issue at night with my right hand going numb when laying on right side, so end up laying on my left side till I can't get comfortable. Think its carpal tunnel and with a life time of construction, working with hammers and such. Seems odd to me since I'm a Lefty and to be my right hand causing minor problems. Have a wrist brace that I wear at night some times when I remember to put it on and seems to help.

No offense to the OP or other forum posters, why do folks post questions about medical issue? Seems there are several lately.
Who on any forum can diagnosis medical issues let alone solutions?
It's all speculation or WAG?

WEB MD, Apple I Phone App or the Lounge??

I've heard that if over 60 and you wake up without any pain somewhere that it is good evidence that you died over night. Certainly true for us over 70 crowd.
My wife has been offering to help with my nightly aches and pains. She has mentioned many times she'd like to put me out of my misery (and hers too apparently)!

Time to find a new, younger, prettier low mileage wife.
Or just do what I did, divorce the old hag and just rent or lease.

Could it be caused by poor blood circulation? The body parts aren't getting enough oxygen being carried by the blood. For example, the hands have the tingling sensation like they have "gone to sleep" which is caused by low oxygen levels in the arm and hands. Also there may a slight blue color to the skin in the area which is another indication of low oxygen levels in the blood.

According to the following article, Numbness in Hands: 22 Possible Causes, there are 22 possible causes for numbness in the hands.

I have it in my left hand. Just saw my Doctor about it.
Name: ULNER NERVE ENTRAPMENT.
Caused by a pinched nerve in your neck. Back of it.
My MD is finding a surgeon for it that is in TYLER or Dallas.
My left hand ring finger and the finger to the right is numb, tingles and stings. Keeps me from using hand and pain keeps me awake at night.
The nerve is in the back of your neck where surgery takes place.
This is tricky specialized surgery. Hand hurts all day and night and I get very little sleep.
ANYBODY else out there has it or had the surgery"
I'm nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs!

Who said getting old? Well...

A concern is being absolutely safe while shooting.

Can you imagine trying to shoot with NUMB HANDS? Argh.

What about wake up at night with an intruder looking at you? Argh x 2!!!

But so far there is only around 17 replies so the final post will be the correct answer.:D

Before I would get surgery I would find a Gonstead chiropractor to straighten my neck out. Realize nerves run in our spine and when bones start pressing against nerves then pain usually follows.

For over 6 months I had horrendous knee pain and almost total lack of movement due to pain. I didn't want to get cut on and I finally went to a Gonstead chiropractor. After three back treatments my knee pain was gone and I have free movement of it. That was about 3 years ago.

I cut my steaks not my body if I can help it.

...my wife says if it's the thumb and first two fingers...it's your wrist...

...last two fingers...it's your elbow...

...I have both at different times on both sides...

...she has had Carpal Tunnel surgery on one side...won't have it done on the other...
