What did I find ?

I went to the indoor range the other day and found some spent cases that were new to me.

I have no idea if they are pistol or rifle ammo and wounder if anyone
can shed some light on them for me?

The case on the right of the .22 long case has 22 TCM on it.
the one on the left is fine print and I think it reads 4.6 x 20 ?

Is the one on the left a smaller .223 used by the Government agencys ?

Some really weird looking cases.

22 TCM is a HOT pistol round and I believe the 4.6 is a subgun round for armor penetration.. experts will be by to confirm or mock me... lol

The .22 TCM was a round developed by Fred Craig and he built an upper echelon 1911 around it. Later, he worked with Rock Island Armory to make much lower cost pistols that most anyone could afford. The idea behind this round is that the case dimensions are similar to the 9mm so that you could have a two-caliber pistol with only a barrel swap.

Thank you for the replys and help, on these two rounds.

The TCM seems to be a nice "Mini" load if that floats your boat

but after reading that article, it looks like the 4.6x30 is not quite up to par
as some golfers tend to say.

Must have been a stab at getting a 22 Mag, to fit in a pistol magazine?

The 22 TCM is a nice little round. I compare it to the 22 Jet or 5.7x 28 in ballistics. Loud but almost zero recoil in a Rock Island 2011. It is also convertible to 9mm. I also have a Rock Island bolt gun which uses the same magazines. I reload for it with several 30 to 45 grain .224 bullets and H110 or LiLgun powder. Very accurate. The 40 gr. factory bullet is the best choice for the pistol but longer bullets will work in the rifle.

Factory ammo is still surprisingly available for less than $30/50. Reloads cost next to nothing.

While close to the same length as the 9mm it is actually based on the .223/.556 case.

Wasn't the 22 TCM developed by RIA and they released the first gun that shoots it? I'm guessing they are still manufacturing that round and that's why it is still available.

RIA produces several 1911 pattern pistols for the 22TCM cartridge but the OAL prevented it from being used in a conversion unit that used 9mm magazines. They then came up with the 22TCM 9R, a modification of the original 22 TCM. The OAL of the 9R is the same as the 9mm. 22 TCM on left, 22TCM 9R on right.

After I heard about the 9R, I knew I had to have a pistol in this caliber(I like bottleneck pistol cartridges)Found one online, picked it up a few days later and stopped at the range on the way home for a quick test. I already had the ammo on hand, bought it along with some other ammo from TargetSports a few weeeks earlier. After about 30 rounds at 25 yds, I picked up my target and headed home.

The pistol, I think, is probably a Tanfoglio EAA Witness Pavona model. RIA rebadged it and put a fully adjustable rear sight on it. It's based on the CZ75 which couldn't be better in my opinion.
