My range bag typically contains:

Gun(s)
Ammo
Targets
Rag
A screwdriver
Eye and ear protection
First aid kit
Speedloaders/Quick Strips/Magazines (depending on what I'm shooting)

I typically shoot no more than 200 rounds per session, usually just one gun. If I shot more, I might add a toothbrush, a bore brush, and maybe a small bottle of CLP. If shooting my Glock I might add a G-TUL and mag brush. I'm going to add a Dejammer to my keychain when I get a chance.

A screwdriver set that fits all the screws on the gun, a wooden dowel-a hardwood one-in case I get a squib, a can of lubricant, when I fire a centerfire auto, a brass catcher of some sort.

I've collected so many odds and ends either in my pistol box or my range bag that I carry all kinds of junk with me. In my pistol box, other than guns, ammo, ears and a rag, I have a small screwdriver with different bits (very handy), speedloaders, loading blocks, a knife, a small bottle of Militec-1, and probably stuff I don't remember is in there.

My range bag is even worse...it's accumulated lots of junk. One of the handiest things is a little rifle cleaning kit that came with a rod that screws together in several different sections, has brushes and all, and it rolls up into a vinyl pouch, plus all of the stuff mentioned above. At some point I've used all of it.

It also doesn't hurt that when I go shooting it's out at my granddad's and I've got access to everything in the toolbox on my truck :)

My range bag has eyes, ears, guns, mags, ammo, CLP, toothbrush, and a screwdriver. This is stuff I need to shoot

My range box (red plastic tool box) has hammer, nails, staple gun, tape, targets, timer, spray paint for steel targets. This is basically for target support box.

Then there is the 16'x20' two story work shop ajacent to the range that has all the ammo, targets, reloading press, wood tools, etc.......

CD

Water, sunscreen, hat, baby wipes to wipe my hands and face before eating or drinking...
Extra eyes and ears.

My Sig range bag usually has 4 handguns, eye protectiion, hearing protection, S&W screw driver and cleaning rod for an 8 3/8 revolver. I carry my ammo in a gym bag or 50 cal ammo can depending on what handguns or rifles I'm taking. I also shoot a lot of 22LR after shooting my other calibers so at least a brick of 22 ammo.

I also take a few empty coffee cans to put my spent brass in as I am a reloader. That way when I get home I can dump them in my thumbler and clean the brass. My range bag has a seperate side pocket for magazines so I always have a spare magazine for every semi auto I own in there.

All or most of the above plus: spotting scope, toothbrush for when I'm shooting revolvers to brush under the extractor star if necessary. I do most of my shooting at an indoor pistol range but I also have a wooden rifle rest I made up and a bag with a stapler, tape, roll-up style cleaning kit, and some other odds and ends that rides around in my trunk all the time for when I go to the outdoor rifle range.

I have been accused of taking the kitchen sink. I think the comments are just jealousy. My wife gave me a storage chest w/wheels on one end to make it easy. Guns, ammo, glasses, ear protection, targets, small target frame in case the range frames are busy, if the kids are going...the metal .22 spinner, sand bags, bench rest, cleaning supplies, small tool kit, bench pad (made from a sleeping bag pad), water, spotting scope, lense cleaner, WalMart bags for empties, notebook (particularly if testing a new load).....kitchen sink.

i usually take;

gun (s)
ear muffs
ammo
targets
stapler
Rem Oil
Rags
Cleaning rod and jags
bore snake
flitz
gun cleaning mat
etc.

i find it easier to sit down and clean the gun on the spot rather than take it home and let laziness kick in. i usually go to the local gun club with several friends and we always sit down and dissassemble and clean our guns after shooting. seems less like work when your still at the gun club.

+1 on the wooden dowel. For the first time last weekend, I had a case (a factory reload) that split and stuck in my revolver. Could not get the ejector rod to move, so I had to wiggle out all the spent cases by hand. Had the dowel, but it was sitting in the garage on the work bench, so it did not do me much good when I needed it.

With all that has been listed, the only thing missing is that one item left on the bench at home. You know it, the thing that you have never needed at the range until you do and it's at home.

earmuffs
ear plugs (in case)
glasses
sunglasses
staple gun
push pins/thumbtacks (in case I run out of staples)
hammer (for driving target stakes, mending backboards, etc)
targets
red spots
duct tape
mat (excess tool box liner)
spotting scope
zombie targets (for kids)
screwdriver
file
45 bushing wrench
bicycle gloves (for the wife and I get slide "bite" from my 1911's)

All of the above fits into a 5 gallon Rubbermaid box marked "range box"

Ammo

wife

First aid kid (in the truck) that includes:
Quick clot
bandages
Super glue
duct tape
aspirin (hey, I'm getting old)

Coffee and/or water.

Eye and ear protection, ammo, range rod, multitool, small screwdriver, lubricant, some clean rags preferably cotton terry, small flip top bottle of Hoppes, vinyl coated Dewey pistol rod with brushes and patch jag. Also, some caliber appropriate bore patches, a jar of J-B bore cleaner, a couple bandaids and usually a cold drink in a coozy. A borelight is also in the bag. I also try to keep a roll of paper towels in the truck.

If I plan on an extended session, which is fairly the norm for me, I also take a cooler with drinks and some fruit and other snacks. On raceday (NASCAR) we usually also take a good portable radio.
