OK folks, how many of you are, or soon to be, affected by this clash of the titans in the northeast. This blizzard reminds me of the one in 1978, where I had to walk to the university because all public transportation was shut down in New York, and my VW bug was buried in snow. It was the last year as a civilian as I knew it before re-joining the military services after a stint in the Army.

I remember the blizzard of 1977 outside of Buffalo.

I remember the blizzard of 1947 (48?), when New York got 36 inches of snow. Didn't seem to trouble them much back then.

One front blew through here a couple of days ago. It's now up North making mischief after joining with another front from the midwest. We've got another soaker coming through here in the next few hours. It's supposed to dump a lot more rain on us before heading to the NE. The last one hasn't fully run off and the new one will probably cause some flooding here.

I remember the 1978 Blizzard here in Indiana.
We we're snowed in out in the country for 4 days
until someone came through with a Road Grader to
plow open a road to town. Only true Blizzard i've
seen so far. We had a "blizzard" here Christmas
night of last year but it was nothing compared to
1978. Does anybody else think Jim Cantore needs to
be taken out by a snow plow or flying tree?

This is a good one, its been snowing at a good rate for 25 hours, they where forecasting 18"-26" and high winds, its supposed to wind down this afternoon. We live up on a little hill so when it blows hard its difficult to judge how much snow has fallen, but its drifted up to the door knob on the front of the house and about a foot over the threshold on the side door, luckily we still have power, I'm hoping to catch up on some reloading today, and get dug out by tonight, there's a good sized gun show about a hundred miles from here that I'd like to hit tomorrow, wish me luck

In PA, 1972 and 1978, snow depths to car windows, without measuring the drifts. Drifts at road passes had to be removed with front end loaders. There was one on rt. 22 near colonial park that went from the top of 5 story hill, extended across four lanes of road, leaving only the very edge in the breakdown lane for traffic! The snow actually replaced the ground they had carved out to put the road through.
My dad bought a john deer snow blower that year, on condition the shop deliver it with a can of gas. Delivered in an fj40 Toyota, barely made it to the house and out of the driveway. Still have the john deer and gas can....has moved tons of snow over the decades.

The summer of 1972 was hurricane Agnes. Left 20" of rain in one day.

That's what you get.

That's Classic! 32" of snow hell!! There's a nice gun show tomorrow!! I'm going! :);):):D

I was in the 78 blizzard. I was traveling from Ft Wayne Indiana trying to get to Kentucky but my car could not push through the snow. I was lucky to find a Motel and although we ran out of food, I stayed there for 4 days.

A couple of feet so far here, should be ending soon. Our pals in Maine are getting hammered with more, for a lot this will be the #1 all time snow storm. High tide in some coastal areas is in 30 minutes, and this might be the worst part of this in terms of property loss and casualties. They are trying to evacuate some areas but I doubt they will be very successful.
I don't think a car has gone by this morning, just plows. Electricity has stayed on here. I have everything I need, always do (at all times), the critters are all hunkered down in the coop and barn. All is well here, in central NH, hopefully it will be so for everyone else too.

I was in southern WV in 78 and that was the most snow I had ever seen. And, the last time I saw any quail to amount to anything.

Still coming down, sent the boy out the window so he could shovel out a door...lol, hard to tell with all the drifting but it must be 30" or so and blowing hard

Stay safe all you people affected. And CWH44300, I hope you
can make it to the Gun show. Now that's some funny ****.
Blizzard of 1978 wiped out the quail around here also LazyKB.
There are some around here again now but not like pre-78.
Feel for you guys having to dig out of that mess. Been there--
Done that....
