I'm looking at a Bianchi "border patrol" or "jordan river" holster that is marked "Bianchi 99M" and "38/357 magnum". The holster is in GREAT shape at a good price. I have a S&W model 28 four inch and I'd like to pick this holster up for it's twin. The problem is that LOTS of other manufacturers made .38/357 revolvers...in different frame sizes. I don't own any revolvers other than these two N Frame Smiths...I don't need a GREAT holster at a good price if I don't have a gun/guns to fit it. ANY help would be appreciated and a reliable source to identify the various pistol sizes that will fit Bianchi/Safariland (at least now) holsters.

Did you try looking on the Safariland / Bianchi web site? Like other holsters these can be ordered to fit numerous models, but the most common for the Jordan is most common for use with either a 4" K or N Frame S&W.

That holster is the same style which many Highway Patrol Officers used in the 1950s - 1960s.

Smith & Wesson Model 28
or
Colt Trooper

I believe they were tilted like that so the officer could sit in his car.

I do not recall seeing any "Beat" Officers wearing them.

I found one of these holsters on eBay for $29.99, which is probably the holster you found.

We at Bianchi used the term '38/357' to indicate it was for the 'medium' frames that included the Smith K frame and the Colt Trooper frame. Generally these were molded to the Python as the largest of the set. One usually can see the full underlug of the Python in the moulding yet I note from my image collection that we weren't slaves to that combo.

The 99M was an unlined version of the 99R. A thumbsnap version of the latter was called the 99T.
