What guns have you regreted selling?

Only a couple...

Just a S&W Model 36 (bought NIB in 1989), and a S&W Model 649-2 (bought NIB in 1994). The M36 proceeds went towards a Glock 19/gen2 while in college. (Didn't have much extra income at that time in my life. Incidentally, I still have it, and carried it as a duty weapon for several years early in my career.) Ended up replacing the M649-2 with a LNIB one from a member of this forum for about $100 more than what I paid for the NIB one in '94. Great gun, nonetheless!

Actually, only one really....

A 1983-1984 Colt Combat Gov't 1911 from their Custom Shop that was unbelieveable in reliability and accuracy and fit/finish and a box trigger that was perfect. Carried it as a deputy back then. Then I joined the Army and a son graced my life and some things had to go. Yep, I really miss that one. All the others I still remember but they were not memorable.

you would have to remind me....

Colt Combat Commander .45 bought at B&B in North Hollywood about 1975, when it was in a little Industrial center not the big store....I cry over that alot...

Star Starfire .380 pocket piece, locked breach 1911 lockup. Couldn't find a reliable magazine, just the one that came with the gun and someone used the base as a screwdriver. Sigh.

Who could have done something intelligent.

None of them really. I've been selling off most of mine over the last year or so. (Actually, I've done it all my life, bought, sold and traded.) I've come to realize that I had guns that I didn't shoot, never had shot, and probably never would shoot. I didn't even take them out to look at them.

For what? Just to have them? That might be ok for someone else, but it wasn't for me.

I decided to sell them to others who would enjoy them more than I did. I've kept a dozen or so of the best, but the rest have gone on down the road. That doesn't mean I won't buy more. I will. I'll enjoy them for whatever time I keep them, and sell them again, and buy something else.

I do regret selling my S&W Airweight (Vietnam era) and the 66 I coveted for many years, finally got at a somewhat inflated price- and finally sold due to never using it- because it isnt made for the pounding of heavy handloads.

Both count 'em 2!
Bren Ten w/ Marksmen .45 uppers from Dornaus and Dixon both were carried as duty weapons and have not been seen since!

Just a couple. First was a three band Enfield rifle musket I picked up for a couple of hundred bucks when I was in undergrad. Midway through my first year of law school I hated it (school). Was ready to drop out and join a police department. Took the physical and all. They had a policy of come armed at the time. One of the guys on the department was a collector. He knew I was cash poor and offered to trade me even up for a tuned Smith 66 with 4" barrel. I did the trade. Still have the Smith and love it, but my Dad talked me into sticking out law school and never needed the Smith for work. It is a slick little beast though.

Second regret was a NIB nickel Smith 58 I got at an auction for $200, would have been in '02 or so. I'm not much of a nickel fan, but knew they were getting poular and thought I could make a quick buck. Had a new baby coming along and could use some cash too. Sold it for $500 within a week and thought I made a real coup. Wish I had it now, though I do have a blue one I got for near the same price.

Fortunately I have had the good judgement to hold onto my pre-lock Smith & Wessons. However, I had a major lapse when I let go of my first generation, full size, italian made inox (stainless) 92fs Beretta. The workmansip was superb and I miss it very much. Live and learn.

The biggest gun sale regret I have is getting rid of a H&K USP Compact in .40 S&W I eventually got a Glock 27 in the same caliber and its a great defensive pistol in its own right but it's not an H&K! Oh well, lessons learned but I'm sure there will be more!

A happy ending...

When I started this thread over two years ago, I never thought I would get to replace my model 58, or the 547. In the past month, I have replaced my model 58 not once, but twice! Needless to say I am a very happy camper! Has anybody been able to replace there's? Enjoy...

Foolishly sold it before I truly understood what it was and how hard it would be to find another one.

I am young, only 28 and a recent gun licensee (2012) so I only have 5 guns currently. My girlfriend wishes I had less because I can't stop buying them, but oh well.

That being said I've read old timers saying "Don't sell ANYTHING, you'll regret it" and I 100% believe that. Except for my crappy Maverick 88 shotgun, I'd never sell anything else I had unless I absolutely had to for some reason.

I've sold a few pre-17s that I probably shouldn't have. But, they went to good people here on the forum, so I know they're in good hands. :)

Each and every one I've ever sold. No more. The kids & grandkids get 'em when I tip over. They can do as they please. They are mine for now.

Wow, I'm a gun flipper so I have lots of regrets :) Three come to mind, my Colt New Frontier .22/22mag, Colt Commander LWC, and my trusty old S&W 4006. Hey, they'll be more...

That's exactly why I'll never sell mine, unless it's a sub par knock off like my Maverick 88.
