What happened to this M29???

The right side hole is the side plate screw,,so one would need a new screw fitted to take care of it and keep the plate in position properly.

That would be one giant sideplate screw!

The right side cut isn't much larger than the original side plate screw head. They enlarged the original countersink out a bit to the right side with some Black & Decker work. After cleaning up the cut and retapping,,then either a very slightly oversize screw head or a screw and bushing to fix.

Now that hole in the left side,,that's a different matter!

The left side I'd clear the hole cleanly with an end mill and rivit a steel plug into place with a slight under cut. Properly done it would very difficult to see and wouldn't move or come out.

Good idea! That gun may have way too much life left in it to convert it into parts. Some careful work as you describe would make a nice repair, assuming other things are in order. The trick would be getting it for a bargain price.

My idea was much simpler, I would get a set of S&W grip emblems and superglue them into the holes. Simple and effective.

J-B Weld and Duracoat would be my solution.

Though really, why not leave it like it is, and just shoot it?

Makes for a good conversation piece, anyway.

+1 If it is cheap enough and functions OK I'd just keep it and shoot it.
