Given the chance, I would have been born in England in 1750, joined the Royal Marines, traveled to America, joined the Revolution on the side of the rebels and fought for the cause.

My gr, gr, grandfather did something like that. Born in germany, came over here, joined wisconsins iron brigade and fought in the civil war.

I'd choose the mid 19th to early 20th century. Riverboat pilot. They were kings. Big down side is boiler explosions and the medical care of the time. But every era has a down side.

I've lead a pretty blessed life, so I can't honestly say I'd want another one any different from the one I currently have. The only thing I'd change would be my relationship to my first wife, who died of cancer at 38, leaving me with a beautiful 10 year old daughter. I should have been a better husband, God knows she deserved better than me. She and I both made a lot of mistakes along the way, hurting each other needlessly, only to come together, loving each other to the bitter end. I think of her every time I hear the song "The Dance" by Garth Brooks.

I am happy with the way my life turned out, been with the old ball and chain since '72, three healthy children who are all working, a houseful of grand kids, and I believe it or not with all the stupid things I did in my misspent youth, I still have my health.
If I could have chosen a different time when I was a good deal younger, it would have been the rip roar in 20's. Don't know if I would have ended as a bootlegger or G-man but it would have been an interesting time to have lived through.

The biggest regret I have is being too afraid to leave sight of land. To this day, I kick myself for not doing the JAG thing in Law School.
