One of the LGS in town has a S & W Model 500 Revolver. I know there are variants - i dont which one this is exactly. If i get it how much should I pay?

That will depend on condition, barrel length, if it is a Performance Center gun, etc. It's pretty hard to tell you what it's worth without more info than you have provided; however, prices for used S&W Model 500s generally seem to range from a low of $850-900 up to $1,500, varying with the foregoing differences.

How much should you pay? Well, from your perspective, as little as possible; from the shop's perspective, full price.

Thanks that gives me an idea. IIRC, they had a price of 1150.

One of my LGS has two of them - a 6" and an 8" I think. One was $1100, the other $1150 but I can't remember which price was on which length... They've been there for a few months.

I just purchase my in Dec and I paid $1200 OTD here in CA for a 4" model.

Time out, time out!

C'mon man! This is like asking how much a car costs. Do you really expect ANY kind of reliable answer if you have no information about this particular gun?

If you are going to ask the question, do the homework and get the details - especially if the gun is at YOUR LGS. Go back there, get some details and possibly photos and then come back here and ask your question.

Don't take this the wrong way and don't get upset. Just realize that you get out what you put in. Right now, you are setting yourself up to pay way too much or miss out on a great deal.

Frankly, I think you are being lazy about this and in the end, it's only going to hurt you.

The knowledge base of this forum is like a genie in a bottle and you just wasted your last wish on a Coke.

Tough, yes...but with sincerely good intentions.

A.

GASP!!! A Model 500 in CA, you must be a vicious terrorist. Sen. Slimestain WILL be in touch. At least you don't have a high capacity "clip" for it.

Sorry, couldn't resist mocking the state's restrictive gun regulations and the fools the state has sent to Congress. Enjoy your gun. I have a 6.5" PC Model 500 and an original style 8 3/8th" gun but that 4" does have a nice feel to it. Don

I agree that it would be nice having some details and possibly photos of the .500 your looking at.
As was stated, prices range different from dealer to dealer. Some stand firm on prices, some will give a decent discount.

I live in California but bought mine from another member in Florida. It's a 6.5" barrel and a fine gun. Paid $700 and that my friend is the best price I've seen on a 500 of any barrel length. I wouldn't sell/trade it for anything. I've been offered $1200 for it here locally. They are here in California but not many at least not for sale, and difinately not at $700.

As i do for every major purchase I WILL do my homework before buying. However my question was aimed more at getting a general idea of prices. I will do more research and have more details if and when i buy. The other posts gave me some ballpark numbers which is a starting point.
