They CAN make them but the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will begin issuing its deputies M&P9 9mm service pistol as it moves away from Beretta's Model 92 9mm pistol.

The nation's second-largest law enforcement agency signed a five-year contract with S&W for the 13,000 sworn and non-sworn personnel who are issued duty guns.

They probably get 4 or 5 mags with each pistol. That's 65,000 mags going to LA.

that doesn't explain the lack of 10 and 12 round M&P 22 magazines.

I'm pretty sure that they don't make the mags, so the manufacturer of them has other companies that they have to build mags for as well.

Add the LE offices that are ordering, as well as they need mags to go with guns they are building.

And as for Berettas and Sigs, I'm willing to bet those 2 companies aren't moving the same (consumer) volume of guns as S&W

Beretta has the military contract for another 400,000 M-9s and SIG is selling all the P 226, 229, and 2022s it can build to federal LEOs and the French police. Not to mention the various special ops units using them, and Texas DPS just said they're going to trade their 226s in .357SIG for 226s in 9mm.
So I doubt their worried. But it is surprising that LAPD is giving up on their trade mark 92s, oh well time marches on.

Looks like there will be a few more used 92s out there soon enough then. I look forward to buying a few more of them. With all of the spare mags for the 92 series easy to find it seems like the right thing to do.....

I don't like the term "high capacity"...it's a bogus media-created term that was not in the gun owner lexicon prior to it's introduction circa 1994. The correct term is just "magazine"...17 rounds is not "high capacity"...it's standard capacity for the 9mm M&P, G17, etc. Can also be used to denote capacity for any handgun originally designed for use with magazines that hold more that the leftist-approved 10 rounds...

The M&P 22 mags are made in Germany. I ordered 5 and it took about 2 months for them to come in.
