Years ago I was given this old S&W to use as a wall hanger/curosity. It's really a pretty neat little piecs, but unfortunatly was left in storage in a damp location, damaging the finish on the left side. It has about a 3" barrel and appears to be chambered for a .32 centerfire, and a rather short cartridge at that.

Mechanically the little gun is in excellent shape, though I would be very hesitant to shoot it. Does the gun have any value as a trading piece, or do I need to just find a shadow box for it?

It is a .32 Double Action. Beyond that I'm not good enough to be much help. I would think in that condition it wouldn't bring more than maybe $75 to $100 if that.

I believe that is a .32 DA 4th change, due to the pinned front sight, shape of the trigger guard and lacking the ring of notches between the flutes.

epj, I agree with MKT that it appears to be a .32 Double Action, 4th model, from the pics. Post the serial number and we can pin it down more closely. The pinned front sight is a feature of the 4th model however some 5th models also have pinned front sights, plus the S&W logo on the right side of the frame is a feature of the 5th model. If your gun is solid mechanically, it should be safe to shoot with .32 S&W cartridges, as these rounds are not loaded to excessive pressures. Do to the poor finish, the gun is a shooter and doesn't have a lot of collector value except for a parts source.

I have no particular attachment to the little gun. However, rather than selling it, I was more interested in trading it for, or towards, a more modern gun. I am primarily a shooter vs a collector. I guess I'm open to offers.
