What is the most you ever paid for..,

I actually prefer Scotch, but I'm not a big spender. Spent just under $50 for a bottle as a gift, then decided I better know if it's any good before giving it to a friend, so I bought another for myself. It was tasty for sure, but like someone else said, I think of the S&W's I could be buying with the money, and they will still be here a month later to enjoy. The booze would likely be gone,..... forever.

Then I use up shelf space to display the fancy bottles (I may put colored water, or tea in them). The shelf space is at a premium in the gun room, so buying some $25-$30 scotch , I end up with duplicates & throw them out.

I'm a cheap baster.

Difficult at best.

Scotch and cheap just seems like a tough row to hoe!

Don't take it wrong...but spending big bucks on likker is a bit ridiculous...in my opinion.. After the first drink yer tastebuds can't tell the difference. A gift for someone else?? I can see that. Otherwise it seems to be like people that buy high end guns(not collectibles) and never intending to shoot 'em....just showing off. Course on the other hand...I am cheep...but not with shooters!

I stick to fine wine, but I am a connoisseur. :)

What's the word? Thunderbird, and the train is pulling out of the station, destination...nowhere!

Around 1970 I splurged on a bottle of Galliano so I could make Harvey Wallbangers. I think it was around $16 or so, a huge sum at the time for a starving college student.

Might have been my best investment ever!:D:D:D:D:D

We have a discount liquor outlet near my house in Sag Harbor. Lagavulan 16 is $67.00 a bottle, Oban 14 is under $70.00, Laphroig $42.00 etc., but the most I have ever paid for a bottle of whisky was $1,800 for a bottle of 25 Year Old Red Breast.

Fortunately I have been buying wine futures and barrel programs since the late 70s and have wines that I can trade for all my really high priced whisky needs.

I owed a young boy who we helped get through high school some bourbon for having lost a bet. He grew up into an outstanding young man who really knew his Kentucky bourbons. My lady and I hired him as the CFO of our Corporation a dozen years later. So I ordered the only Blantons Gold I could find from England. $240
I also got him a taster's set as well.
That Pappy's Van Winkle shown above was made from unobtanium. Get ready to put a comma in the price tag.

I finally got a shot of the Blantons Gold. I have never cared for bourbon. I absolutely loved the Blantons Gold.

But after Quad Bypass and then an Ablation cardiac surgery, liquor is not on the menu.

You guys enjoy my share for me; Like the old rich guy in the Humphrey Bogart movie.

^^^^^There I fixed that for ya heck the winos I used to have to deal with at work wouldn't drink Thunderbird. And I do remember the advertisement on TV about we sell no wine before it's time Ernest and Julio Gallo...BUT they made Thunderbird

Actually Absalom...I no longer drink alcohol. I did have half a really cold beer a couple of years ago with a BLT on Rye on a really hot day in the summer. It was almost great. Never did much care for beer

Most expensive for me was probably a 1.5L bottle of Woodford Reserve for about $65 or so. I did buy some Pappy Van Winkle 20 year back around year 2000, before the price went crazy, I paid $43 a bottle. If you want a bottle of that now, it'll set you back over a grand on the aftermarket.

I spent about $80, if memory serves, for a bottle of cognac for my brother on the occasion of the birth of his first child. This was in 1981 or so, so that would be about $225 in today’s bucks.

For myself, I think it was $50 for a bottle of Angel’s Envy bourbon about a year ago. It was recommended to me by a friend who was coming over with her husband that evening. Nice stuff, but too pricey for my budget for a regular tipple.

I recently got a bottle of the 12 year old Van Winkel for $80. I could have resold it for $1,000 or more but chose to drink it and share with friends. Now my name is on the bottom of the list at my local liquor store. I should get to the top of the list again in 2022.

I paid close to 10 bucks per highball at a george thorogood concert
Doubt ive ever paid more for liquor than that

I just paid under $8 for a 1.5 liter bottle of Mogen David concord wine. I happen to like sweet wine - and it's a "comfort drink" for me now and then after dusk. For me, there's no need to pay more.

I have been known to pay a bit more for Rebel Yell bourbon. It's one of only two vices I have left...

People who pay those ridiculous sums for a bottle of whatever are simply being ostentatious, in my opinion. One is tempted to think "How many Smith & Wessons would that buy???"

And since we're talking about buying Smith & Wessons, it's definitely my other vice! I probably fall more into the "whatever it takes and still maintain harmony at home" crowd there!

I like to keep it at or better yet under $14.95 for the handy plastic canister bottle of whatever metric units of whiskey they put in it.
Most have nice but yet forgettable names. I see them again at the store by identifying the label, but sometimes the price is hiked. Then another lesser known gets a tryout.
Tastes fine to me,,,and I'll have another.
Truly helps calm the jitters for an engraver.
Better than any pills,,probably the same not so good ending I'm afraid.

..Oh,,there's a $2 rebate on that too!
It's like getting a box of .22's with it..

See, and I look at it exactly the other way round:

I started getting out of buying more guns and more into buying good whisky when I got wise enough to realize that living was more important than having. Better to buy experiences than more stuff that you can’t take with you ;)
