"Snappy recoil from the .40." I've read this entire thread and I read that previous statement numerous time. I'm not a big fan of the .40, as I haven't done a whole lot of shooting with it. I do own three .40s, as during the last great ammo crunch, that was the only premium ammo I could find. That said, I have the three guns due to that experience. What I have found with the .40 is that the only guns that seem to have a "snappy recoil" are the Glocks. I'm not a fan of the Glock grip shape, and that seems to play a large part in the snap of the recoil. That too, being said, I find that my three .40s are all more comfortable shooters than the Glock versions. This includes my XD, Sig P239, and Shield. Yes, even the Shield is a more comfortable shooter in .40 than the any Glock to me. I think that the caliber is a good one, but I believe the handgun platform can be improved upon if qualification scores need to be brought to a higher level of proficiency without changing calibers. I really don't want to badmouth Glocks, as they're good, dependable weapons, certainly up to the task. The only Glock grip shape that I like is that of the G-36, a semi-single stack. As I get older, I find that just about any single stack is a much more comfortable handgun for me to shoot. I don't carry a .40 on a daily basis, but I would if ammo availability dictates.
