What is your favorite motto??

Adding to the wisdom

"You can't miss fast enough to win." Mickey Fowler

"You are not paid to think, you are paid to follow orders." Air Force NCO during a coaching session. It allowed me to make his life miserable by doing :D EXACTLY :D what he told me to do. My response was always, "I'm not paid to think." Youth was a wonderful thing.

"In God we trust, all others pay cash."

"You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose."

Rule of the Street:
"Always expect the worst, that way you'll seldom be disappointed"

Texas Ranger at a church function of some sort was approached by an elderly lady who had noticed his cocked and locked 1911. Her query was as follows:"my goodness Ranger, that pistol looks dangerous! You expecting trouble? Ranger replies,"No maam, if I was I'd a brought my shotgun...." attributed to either Lone Wolf or Glen Elliott

"Very few things can't be fixed with $800 and a 30'06" Col. Cooper

"I hate everybody....the same" Lucky Fields, now long gone Dallas Co. Deputy, full blood Mescalero Apache, mentor to young, stupid rookies

"The problem isn't the things we don't know, it lies with the things we know that aren't so."

I'm reminded of this truism every time politicians open their mouth!

"That others may live" - The last part of the USAF's Air Rescue Service mission statement. Although, we didn't call it a mission statement when I was a rescue specialist. Best damm job I ever had.

"Do as you would be done by" is a good rule to observe, and "Be done by as you did" is a warning to those who break the rule.

Charles Kingsley had two ladies, Mrs DAYWBDB and Mrs BDBAYD in his book "The Water Babies" back in the 1860s.

And how about: "Justice, Just isn't" for which I claimed copyright some time ago.

------In hi school I recall a girl who said this saying--"let's don't-and say we did"-don't remember the girl who said it---------one of my favorite's------"class tells"

Growing up as a kid, Mom was trying to teach us to be independant

I still remember her saying to us kids"Sooner or later all chickens have to learn to scratch for themselves" She was right 100% Marie E. Born tough in Laramie Wyoming. 1929-1984 How the hell she ever hooked up with my dad is beyond me.

This comes from racing, and I've heard it or read it from people in various racing series all over the globe. May have come from legendary race team manager Carroll Smith:
"If you can't find time to do it right, you're going to need to find time to do it again."

I think it was Tuco in one of the spaghetti westerns that said..

"If youre gonna shoot..shoot...dont talk."

that motto always brings a chuckle.:D

I guess two of my favorites are:

"The race does not always go to the swiftest or the victory to the strongest, but time and chance happen to us all" : King Solomon

"Son, if you don't have time to do it right, when are you going to have time to do it over?" My daddy as he explained to me there were only two ways to do things, his way and the right way and they were both the same. Yessir, he was tougher than whang leather and about as soft and cuddly.

my mom's favorite

smart people talk about ideas
average people talk about events
stupid people talk about other people.
