A lot of great short statements here, some serious, some amusing. But if you truly pay attention, there's some pretty hard core serious philosophy under the humor.
A few contributions:
90% of being smart is knowing what you're dumb at.
90% of what you know is wrong.
If there's a 50-50 chance something can go wrong, nine times out of 10 it will.
And more seriously,
Character is revealed by what you do when you are not aware anyone is watching.
And this isn't really a motto, but a friend of mine who worked on the Senate staff in the 1980s said he once heard a US Senator describe the senate as "Just 100 below average guys trying to do an average job." I'm sure there is a motto in there somewhere.
I think the one I like most (or could take most personal benefit from) in the preceding posts is along the lines of "Do it yourself, do it right, and do it now. Nobody promised you tomorrow." Gotta work on that.
