My favorite is my .45 Colt Model 25-7. It's the most accurate and enjoyable to shoot gun handgun I own.

BlackAgnes; Why? ...because it doesn't say "Mountain Gun" on it anywhere! I dislike all the cheesy model names that S&W puts on some of their guns said:
Boys,
Well there ya go...At long last, the cold hard truth.
Thanks Tim.

My 'N' frames have been in 'em thar hills a plenty o' times.

Even my hy-bred 1950's .44magnum. Light weight, handy and willin' to go!

BlackAngus, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed or something? I had to laugh a little at your post. It was one of the "grumpiest" postings that I've seen in long time. And, my friend, I can post some grumpy posts, believe you me.

Yeah, some of the names that all manufacturers of almost all products come up with are a little "out there". I however, don't really feel that "mountain gun" quite falls into that category.

After having read a number of threads about them, here and elsewhere, I've discovered that they are a somewhat limited comodity. That's nice, I think. That's also why they named them, I think, "mountain gun", so that they would be easily identified. Thus making their limited availability easy to track and ID.

So, while you're entitled to your opinion, and I defend it completely, I just have to wonder. Why in the world would you waste your time to post a negative post in a thread that was a positive one about a particular gun? Just wondered if you got a thrill out of peeing on the other poster's parade.

Don't get mad, just think about it for a little bit, and please post a logical, calm, well thought out answer. I see this type of stuff all the time and it's a real wonder to me. I personally try to pass up these oportunities as they are really just a chance for me to show my butt. And, not change anyone's opinion, other than, well, you get my drift I think.

SgtSam-- My post was "tongue-in-cheek", intended to make you smile.

Mission accomplished!

One USAF MSgt to another!

BTW, what is your AFSC?

Tim

I'm a fan of the 45 Colt, especially in my MG. It meets my needs as well or better than any other handgun I've ever owned.

I have all the pre-lock calibers.
I can't necessarily say why I prefer one over another but here's how I call it:

1) 357 7 shot
2) 41
3) 44
4) 45 ACP
5) 45 LC

BlackAgnes: Yes, your mission was successful. I laughed. I'm also glad that your aren't that grumpy. Boy, that was something.

AFSC: I held a number of them. My last one at retirement was 32899. I was also a 30272, and another one that I can't remember (AFOSI Technical Agent).

Rank: Don't know if you noticed, but the stripe is pre-91. I retired an E-8 in 1984, 21 years active.

I was glad when they changed the stripes in '91, it was long overdue. However, I thought the changes that came to the Blues around that time plain sucked! They made it look more like a "Wallstreet" outfit than a military uniform.

Nice to have another USAF retiree around. Thanks again for the fun. You got me!!!

Best Mountain Gun

You can carry the biggest, heaviest, largest caliber revolver that you have. You still have to insert the right ammo and have proper placement. You can irritate any animal if these are not done properly. If not done so, throwing your revolver at it would be the next best scenario. A 357 will do the trick if all of the above are applied. Obviously the same goes for the larger caliber hand guns. Just my opinion..........

.41...because it is accurate...

..and I have a second set up with night sights...

Regardless of caliber this is the best balanced S&W ever made....

If I could have an N frame 8 shot WITHOUT a LOCK stainless hammer mounted firing pin .357 mountain gun-it would be my favorite-but since that ain't gonna happen, I'm going with my .44 mag 629-4. I shoot .44 specials out of it mostly and it is the nutz!!!!!!!!!!!

You can come pretty close with a 627-2 I think...

I've had my 45 Mountain Gun since the first issue.

A few years ago I was shifting gears in what I owned in firearms, everything was put up for sale, except for the Mountain Gun, until I had raised enough funds for the new project.

I dont have a offical mountain gun. Just a name far as I am concerned. I have a model 24-3 44 special 4". They never made a 44 special MG because they already been makeing them forever before they came out with the MG label.
Isnt a MG suppose to be on a N frame? Why bother haveing a .357 MG when they already have the 19 and 66? They better carry the MG idea better than the MGs do!
Now were I to buy a MG, it would have to be in .45 colt. However I already own a 4" 25-5. Hey! Maybe I can order a .45 colt MG barrel and have it installed? Ya think?
Seriously, I seldom pack concealed as about the only times I do is when I travel, and then mostly in and out motel rooms. Otherwise I have one in the truck or quad. When in the truck or ATV I really can carry any size gun. I aint into walking much anymore so its either a light pocket gun for me, or anything I want in arms reach in my vehicle.

That's the same way I feel about my 629-2 Mountain *Revolver*. I've had it since it was new and it would be the last gun I'd sell, and the one most likely to be pried from my cold, dead hand.
