What is your game? IDPA, USPSA, Bullseye, IPSC, ICORE, NRA Action, Steel, PPC, Silhouette, Bowling Pins, Cowboy or even High Power Rifle...

Forgive me if I missed yours, those were all the ones I could imagine using a Smith and Wesson product in.

Let us hear it for your game and let us see your game guns.

The two games I like most are Bowling Pin Matches, and IDPA
This is going to be photo heavy.

Bowling Pin Matches are broken into 2 classes, automatic & revolver. The matches are two shooters side by side, 5 pins each on a table at about 35 feet, first shooter to clear all pins off his table wins. Deadwood doesn’t count! We shoot 5-7 strings depending on how many shooters are there. The round count is about 50 rounds for each class, some use more.

My favorite revolver for pins is a model 25-2. It reloads very fast if you can’t get it done with 6.

I also like this Redhawk. A medium load knocks the pins right off.

For shooting the automatic class I use this Kimber Classic Custom Target series I. The dot makes things go pretty fast.

When shooting IDPA I shoot each type.
In ESR I’m expert with 625-3

In SSR I’m expert with 686

In SSP I’m sharpshooter with M&P 40

In ESP I’m sharpshooter with Para P-16 40. Ugly skateboard tape and all.

In CDP I’m sharpshooter with Kimber TLE

I try to shoot some kind of match every week. Doesn’t always work but sometimes I get to shoot 2!

I am the Match Director for our IDPA club in Georgia. I currently hold Sharpshooter classifications in CDP, ESP, and SSP. I just got a nice used 4" Smith Model 19, so SSR is next.

I had our club treasurer buy some ICORE targets, so that is in the works for the near future.

Our club also has indoor bowling pin matches similar to roundgunner's club, except that we shoot at 25' and go best two out of three with double elimination. Half of the money taken for the match goes to the first and second place shooters.

Conventional Pistol (Bullseye), Police-L, and 2x4 stake matches, Trap, and Skeet for fun.
Intend to try pins, steel, PPC, and High Power Rifle if I get the chance. Some mobility issues make me hesitate to get involved in the "run & gun" games.

NRA Highpower and Garand Matches, I have not tried any pistol competitions, yet

F-Class rifle, USPSA,ICORE,IDPA, 3 GUN uspsa, and a new fun match match just getting started here in Las Vegas called ZOMBIE matches. There is also a cowboy matche shot here that does not require a costum to participate.

I shoot USPSA. Switched from an auto in production last year to revolver. My gun is a moonclipped 686 with a 6 inch barrel.

I start out competitive shooting when I was a kid in three-position smallbore. A club called Stony Brook with little indoor shooting range built into a hill side in the middle of town.

Also tried the Garands then, but it was a friendly revolver match fund raiser that got me hooked on handguns. One of the club members let me use his Smith and Wesson 38 special. Can't remember the model, it was stainless, and I loved it.

Used to be Match Director for our local IDPA club here in Bigfork, MT. Shot USPSA for a couple of years and got my B Card. Shot a Para P16 Limited.

Also got our local SASS club (Bigfork Buscaderos), up and running about 7 years ago. Used two 5.5 Vaq's, Baikal SxS and a Winnie model 94.

Shot the various steel and bowling pin matches here and there. Those sure were fun!

Got pretty burned out a couple of years ago and passed it all onto others. Only shot a couple of IDPA matches over the last 2 years. Waited until I finally got Expert in SSP with a 5906 and Expert in CDP with an old Kimber Classic Custom before I left.

This year, I'm gonna try to see what I can do with a 586 in SSR.

USPSA, Steel challenge and ICORE.

Use a 627 X 8 PC for the ICORE, 617 X 10 for the steel challenge and a 5" 625 for USPSA. Both the 627 and 625 need Federal primers. I use 38 short colt brass in the 627.

I heard a lot about competition shooting so I gave it a try a few years ago. First was USPSA then IDPA. My older eyes are terrible and my reflexes have slowed. I took a year off due to the rising cost of ammo. I was classified sharpshooter. I'm trying IDPA again this season with my competition set up 3.5# trigger, Dawson sights, extended magazine release Springfield XD9 Tactical. My holster is a kydex TKW.

Guess there are not many PPC shooters left out there. I shoot PPC with a custom Model 13 and/or a custom Model 10. Figured I would see more from the PPC crowd at this forum since the sport is dominated by Smith and Wesson revolvers, but have not seen much discussion about it.

Trap, modifed IDPA, modified cowboy, rimfire silhouette and the yearly "turkey shoots" when they have them. :D

I say modified IDPA and cowboy, because we don't abide by association rules- we use club modified rules. Rimfire silhouette is the only one that I know of that is officially scored and that we go "by the book."

After all, cowboy should be shot with full bore loads anyway, and your old 1917 should be allowed in IPDA anyway- I'm not trimming my barrel! ;) I don't care if I was scored or not- I pay and shoot for fun anyway.

I shot PPC from the mid 70"s until my retirement in 1987. Its a shame that there isn"t more PPC matches around. I guess its not as exciting to the present day shooters. PPC is all about accuracy with some time constraints throw in.

I first thought about trying PPC, because I wanted to shoot revolver, but it was a big hike to the nearest match. There were more USPSA matches around.

PPC didn't seam a civilian friendly, but that might be my misunderstanding. The USPSA and IDPA clubs were also good about letting you shoot a match and see if you liked it, before asking you to becom a member.

I'm not sure if these are a factor for others, beyond the dynamic nature of IDPA and USPSA.

I shoot PPC, in fact my first match of the season is this weekend. I'll be rolling out at zero 6 and shooting both days, 2 revolver 1500 1500 matches tomorrow and 2 auto matches on Sunday. I'll follow that up with another four 1500's in two weeks. Just a little over a month until I light out for the Mississippi Highway Patrol Academy for their match.

Lobosolo - you're only 234 miles from a nice big mid year match, the Rocky Mountain Nationals at The Whittington center. That match is a combination of the NM State Match, the CO State Match and the Charlie Pirtle Memorial Regional. With the practice day(s) that is a full week of shooting. This year I believe the match runs July 13 or 14 through the 17th.

Westczek,

It all depends on what state you're in. When I was stationed in Michigan, they had a large civilian group of shooters. We shot outdoor matches in the summer and indoor 50 foot matches in the winter, LE and civilian shooting side by side. The civilian shooters seemed to stick with the indoor winter matches and stayed away from the 50 yard outdoor stuff. Not sure what other states have a civilian PPC league (I know CA doesn't).

Here in the KC metro we have a gun club that holds PPC matches that encourages all shooters to shoot in, both civilian and LE. There are alot more civilian shooters than LE and we all shoot together. We shoot the NRA 1500's in the summer at the 50 yard outdoor range and a PMA 1200 year round both indoors and outdoors. We have a blast and it is a great group of people. I think the area's that are restricting shooters to LE only are missing the boat on a great sport that they could get lots of participants in if they would relax.

I agree, so much so that when I transferred back to CA and got elected back on to our governing board (I was a board member before transferring out) I asked about permitting non-LE shooters. The problem here is that nearly all of the suitable ranges are agency ranges rather than public or shooting club ranges, and the liability issues prompt the agencies to restrict shooters to LE only.

The winter matches in Michigan would often approach 300 shooters. That is a huge number of dues paying shooters. Plus we had shooters from Canada, civilian and LE and I also was a member of the Canadian organization. Shot a number of matches north of the 49th and always had a great time. The Canadian rule only slowed me down a little at the border, I couldn't bring all my gear (little guns and hi-cap mags) but my Canadian friends had "grandfathered" snubbies and 4 inchers for the off-duty and service gun matches.

I started with Bullseye, when to PPC. Then I went to High Power Rifle, then I screwed up the hips and back to bullseye. Not much fun by yourself. I like to shoot pins or plates, but there isn't althing like that around here to do.
