WHAT izzit about Chicken soup?

Now that sounds like soup with some body to it.
For most people, it generally makes a satisfying meal in a single course. I forgot to mention to sprinkle a little grated Pecorino Romano cheese on top when served.

Hubby and I had only that soup as our meal tonight. We put up large batches of it and freeze several containers for later.

Three thousand years of Jewish mothers can't be wrong, and it turns out they aren't. In recent years there have been medical studies that showed there are in fact substances in the classic chicken stock that have palliative and curative properties.
.
This old Tennesse goy already knew that from an awful lot of delicious experience.

So many "old wives' tales" achieve that status because countless generations of old wives have been very, very smart.

I love any good soup,, but when I feel like rigor mortis on rye it's that lovely, comforting "Jewish penicillin" I want.

I was thinking of that, and also thinking of stocking up on several cans of Swansen's broth for just the purpose. I think ill have a can of it for supper too.:)

After a couple of days of that you can get that colonoscopy. Two birds. One stone.:eek::eek:

Unless your stomach is upset,,,,,

Seriously, Eat something and take some vitamins. Your body needs nourishment to combat what ails you.

Be stronger. Feel better.

Chicken soup is always good though.

Matzo balls or pasta or rice or spätzle,,,, every culture seems to have a good chicken soup. Dumplings anyone?

In Asia, its "Hot and Sour" soup. Same broth, but with added Asian mushrooms and fungus! Works for me.
I go to a Chinese restaurant and get the largest bowl. Nothing else, frequently. I have also started making my own. I get the Asian ingredients from Amazon.

Best,
Rick

That stuff is great for what ails you! It's about the only Asian food I like. Please don't tell me what's in it. :D:D:D

Chicken soup helps just because mom said it was good for you. get a jug of that hand sanitizer and use it often. I couldn't hurt. If you lived in Michigan you would be drinking warm Vernor's Ginger Ale and wearing a mustard plaster on your chest.

So much sodium in canned and often even homemade chicken soup.

It might make you feel a little better but in reality it is not good for the health due to so much salt.

A cup of hot green tea will make you feel just as good without spiking your blood pressure.

I don't think it is unusual. I always add a can of diced tomatoes to my chicken soup. My recipe is exactly like BigWheelZips only I sometimes add garlic especially if I am sick and mine doesn't have turmeric. However, I think that is brilliant to add tumeric since it is supposed to help with colds so I will try that next time. Turmeric milk is a popular drink in India to help with a cold.

Chicken tortilla soup also has tomatoes in it too.

I like making soup. It's an easy complete meal that you can pack a lot of veggies in. A big pot typically lasts 3 days so I don't have to cook every day.

Carl, carry a mini bottle of hand sanitizer with you. Also, keep your hands moisturized at night, straight coconut oil is excellent. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you ma'am I do on both accounts. I don't moisturize with coconut oil, but ill try it next time I go shopping. The smell doesn't bother me. Ive been using vasileline, but it barely does the job.

Sometimes my mom would dump in a can of v-8 to a soup, takes it in a different direction.

I second the earlier mask recommendation. Also I read a cold virus sits in your throat for a day or so before it can enter your system. Gargling with Listerine every night kills the virus before it enters your system. Hot tea or soup has the same effect.

I also read eating your boogers helps your immune system, but thankfully the Listerine is working so I haven't started eating boogers yet!

Seriously think about the surgical mask.

I'm seeing more and more people with those masks. I might have to start wearing them at some point because I'm getting sick too easily-and I'm healthy too! This is my 2nd bout in two weeks due to people who have no manners and cough in your face (mine-and other customers) and think nothing of it--while the recipients of the disease-spreading agent---want to mash him into pulp for doing so.........

My wife makes chicken soup,,, at least once a week,,,

It is my job to carry the soup out to the chickens.

I do not know what she puts in the soup, but, the chickens love it!! :D

I normally give the chickens the soup,, after I get done cleaning out the coop.

I'll put tomatoes in just about anything, so I think it's great you ladies are using them in Chicken Soup. I make a type of Italian Wedding soup that's chicken based and it uses tomatoes. It's one of my favorites.

My sister has a great recipe for a "White Chili" that calls for chicken, chicken broth, Great Northern (navy) beans, fresh cream, and yellow tomatoes. She calls it a chili, but it's basically a bean soup and it's delicious. The cream makes it very rich.

Funny that y'all mention Italian Wedding soup, I just had some for lunch--n=but it didn't have any tomatoes in it-had spinach instead.

Sorry to hear your feeling punky.

FWIW, My recipe uses:
Shredded white meat from a Costco rotisserie chicken
Chicken stock fortified with bullion cube
Zucchini
Yellow Squash
Celery
Carrots
Onion
Spinach
Delmonte tomato sauce
Salt
Pepper
Turmeric

Spoon finished chicken soup over a bed of thin Egg Noodles, Orzo, Acini di pepe, or my favorite; Five-cheese Tortellini.
Sprinkle grated Pecorino Romano cheese on top when served.

Feel better. :)

Thank you, getting better day-by-day. Thankfully, I'm off Sat-and can finally get some proper sleep for a change. I'm in the sinus drainage phase now-which actually feels like the worst part to me-as it lingers on and on and on and on----------. No more fever though.

A bit of a funny, I completely lost my voice for two days and I made up a sign at work telling customers so-and also reminding them of an ongoing $5,000 dollar thing we have going. I made the sign and put it on the counter so they could read it. The first couple of customers coudnt read-the next couple couldn't understand English-and the next couple completely ignored it-till I tapped on it with my left index finger while ringing up their stuff using my right hand. Anyway, I did this because I didn't want the customers think I was being rude by not saying anything--and at those times-I could only squeak like a mouse-at best. After that, I got many thumbs-up, and many chuckles-so I was safe from complaints.

Put da lime in a da coconut and drink 'em bof togetha?

I LOVE soup, of all kinds. Even Campbell's Lime in Coconut Soup. It's right up there with my Minestrone, Lentil, Black Bean, Tomato, Cream of Mushroom, Clam Chowder (Chowdah) etc. etc. etc.

I love most soups as well--especially anything that has chicken in it.

Chicken soup is always good though.

Every morning I do take two multivitamins, vitamin B, and something else I cant spell. I only do one can of stock per day-but do add some meat to it-and a sandwich. For me, that stock doesn't have enough chicken-"flavor" to consume more per day-but I do add liberal amounts of pepper-but surprisingly so for me--==--no extra salt.

BTW--for lunch yesterday--I had a bowl of Baked-potato soup and 1/2 of a Monte Cristo (powderless) sandwich. Man it was the best meal ive had in ages.

Speaking of which, just bought some at Barnes and Nobles along with Pumpkin Spice. Cant wait to have both.

It's soup season already.

I like the Lipton cup of chicken soup for lunch. I go with one frozen waffle for breakfast, one pork chop for supper with veggies. Time to get rid of more weight by springtime.

When I can't sleep at night I wake up at lunchtime I have waffles, a snack in the mid afternoon and a small supper.

Lettuce sammiches on a half slice of bread is next to lose weight fast.
