I ASSUME THAT YOU ARE TALKING SD, IN A REAL LIFE SITUATION. I'LL TAKE THE WHEELGUN--SPECIFICALLY MY 2 1/2" 686+…...

1911.....no .357...... no wait 1911......maybe .357.....definately 1911......ok either 1911 or .357!

Don't overlook a nice J-frame loaded with standard pressure 38 special 125 grain Federal Nyclad JHPs.

I know I can stay on target and the muzzle blast will not injure my hearing or the hearing of anyone I might be protecting.

Yeah, I have tested that with out hearing protection indoors. :o

And, I practice the delivery with a similar round just about every week.

Whichever one has trained with effectively and has the most confidence in using. You didn't include a .38 J frame in your list but I personally would "feel" very comfortable with the gentleman from AZ being on my side :).

If you are asking a generic question, the 12 gauge would be the easiest to use and likely the most effective. Hopefully none of us will have to find out.

If contact to 7yds my 2" model 10 or 642 and a Karambit. If 5-15yd my 4567. If 15 to 25yd a 12ga pump. (wouldn't turn down a 20ga either.)

This is assuming SD against humans.

A full meal from Taco Bell washed down with a six-pack, and a one hour fermentation period.

To me, "up close and personal" means hands-on or at least very close to it. If you mean self-defense in general, that's a different animal.

So, I would use the above as avoidance for an up close and personal encounter. If that didn't work, and it was time to grapple, I'm probably SOL unless I can get to my j-frame in my front pocket.

You can bet I'll be making every effort to, though.

Since you didn't specify whether its at home or away, a "precise distance", nor how many perps there are....I'll go with my .40S&W :)

my preference

Always the 12 ga. first..........If out of the house and walking down the street........I would prefer a J-frame in my front pocket; Anything beyond 15 feet, my legs.

I have the top 3 and would deploy them in that order.
