What Model - age - description please

I would not bet on being able to get a NOS/OEM barrel due to the age of the revolver. I suspect that to a great extent, nearly any K frame 6" barrel with a .357 diameter would work, but the devil is in the details, like the size of the ejector rod knob and any required clearance depending on size.
I am assuming that would be some variant of the K38 (M14/pre-14). I am not up to speed on the serial # dates the way some others are, so date wise I can't help. My crude recollection is that the 5 screw frame is going to be near the time model #s showed up (1957 was the order, transitioning in over some relatively small period). Trusting my memory is likely to not be all that prudent.
Someone with a clue ought to come along soon. Pictures would help a lot. Include photos of the sights, and the ejector rod, including the knob.
And ... I'll be dipped. That wasn't too bad of a guess on my part.

What's the problem with the existing barrel? I don't know about the availability of barrels, but i'd think a used barrel wouldn't be that difficult to locate. You might want to inquire in the gunsmithing area about that, or ask for one in the "want to buy" area. Also, look on the gun auction sites or eBay.
While it's possible to do it yourself, replacing a barrel is best left to someone who knows how and has the proper equipment.
